Has the #USlifeinsurance industry reached a time when practices surrounding affiliated assets, offshore reinsurance and general lack of product knowledge by new entrants should result in a pricing charge for potential guaranty fund assessment?

In this SOA rebroadcast I talk about ways that climate change impacts investment decisions. I am reminded of the NAIC private equity discussion and how thinking about emerging risks can help tackle issues. What could go wrong? @SOActuaries
It looks like the government is testing my null hypothesis that the Fed is noise to Treasury’s signal. Borrowing short to buy long shortens a portfolio and adds fragility to the economy. Beware the bond market!

Relying on rules of thumb is a sure way to get blindsided. From climate feedback loops to high-velocity risks, here is why traditional modeling fails in an unpredictable world—and how first-principles thinking can keep you ahead. #crossingthinice

I attended the #BRK meeting yesterday. Lots of people bashing company/meeting who claim to be experts but can’t spell Buffett correctly! Attendance was down but very noticeable was lack of children attending and asking questions. Instead we got real questions and good answers.
Lower bowl filling in but lines were a lot shorter this morning at Berkshire annual meeting - stretching out in my usual spot - shopping was busy yesterday!

#1 Q1 Charlie Munger pooh-poohed the need to prepare for climate change because it moves slowly and insurance contracts reprice each year. Now BHE is being challenged by the impact of global warming, drought and wildfires, with behavior changes by juries a
#6 long-time shareholders. It made me wonder what percentage of buybacks were bought in the open market. Can you share approximate levels over the last few years and your process for determining the price for a non-public transaction,
#7 of 7 especially when the trade is with an insider? This is likely to come into play when Mr. Buffett’s estate sells its shares, hopefully many years from now!
substack.com/home/post/p-195… In the latest #emergingrisk topic in our #CrossingThinIce series, I share background about a #hyperinflation scenario and how risk managers could plan for this possibility. Podcast to follow! @dingramerm
