We celebrate Warrior Phillip treatment at #ManningFamilyChildren 's Center. He underwent groundbreaking #genetherapy , an innovative #treatment that uses a patient's own #genetically modified #stemcells to help the body produce healthier red #bloodcells.

Huntsville Hospital will now offer outpatient Red Blood Cell Exchange (RBCx) for adults — a game-changer for local sickle cell patients.

During RBCx, patients are hooked to a machine that continuously removes their blood, discards the abnormal, sickle-shaped red blood cells, and adds back healthy donor cells mixed with plasma or saline.
