The window in the classroom of this Southwest Side school will not stay open unless propped open, which presents a hazard to both teachers and students - especially our youngest and special education cluster learners.

This is the only working sink in a girls bathroom for students to wash their hands at a South Side CPS school. The water is brown and had to run for six minutes before reaching lukewarm temperature, according to staff.

Science friends... this is a terrific experience to connect and grow as a science educator.. and I was told if I shared this I could hold a sloth?

Chromebooks have a built-in screen reader!
Use Ctrl + Alt + Z to activate.
Also, on Android mobile devices, ask the Google Assistant "read this" on an article to hear it aloud.

My final #GETA session focuses on the creative power of @MicrosoftEDU tools. I still laugh when actually doing stuff with Microsoft paint. To many memories of drawing nonsense while my 56K modem boots up. 9AM this Monday! Techrabbi.me/geta #microsoftEdu #MIEexpert

Remember when they told us that they’d go to remote learning if the number went over 400? Or will they move the bar again?

There are many reasons to continue reading aloud to students whether FtF or online. I examine three benefits in this July @sljournal Curriculum Connections post.
In quarantine, read-alouds remain a powerful way to engage young readers and support their long-term reading growth. @donalynbooks explains the three benefits of reading aloud:

Good morning, friends.
I’m writing to all of my publishers for guidance on the requests to record educators reading my books for their students. Seems like a great idea, but I don’t want anyone to get in trouble.
If I can get permission, I might record a few readings myself!

Educators! Many of your schools have closed from the #COVID19 crisis. Please know that you have my blessing to record video of yourselves reading my books to share online with your students. And THANK YOU for maintaining some normalcy for your students during this difficult time.

My mom spent 2+ years making me a bookcase quilt. Please admire it.
(For those who follow me across multiple platforms, yes I’m posting this everywhere. Did you see the part about it taking her 2+ years? The woman doesn’t know how to use a sewing machine. It’s all by hand!)
