The Lord Already Knows Who Will Be at the Banquet
Just think about it for a moment.
Right now, while we are going about an ordinary day, the Lord already knows every person who will one day sit down at His great banquet.
He knows their names.
He knows the ones who have already trusted Christ. He knows the ones who have not yet heard the Gospel. He knows the person who may be lost today but will someday bow his head and call upon the name of the Lord.
Jesus spoke of a great supper and said'
“A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:” Luke 14:16 KJV
We cannot look across a crowd and know who will be there. We cannot look at a neighbor, a stranger, a difficult person, or someone who seems far from God and know what the Lord may yet do in that life.
But God knows.
Some who will be at that banquet may not even know Jesus today.
That is one reason we keep telling the old, old story. We keep sharing Scripture. We keep praying. We keep inviting. We keep showing kindness. We keep telling people that Jesus saves.
There is still room at His table.
And somewhere today may be a person who will hear about Jesus, believe the Gospel, and someday take a place at that great gathering.
“Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.” Luke 14:15 KJV
What a gathering that will be.
People from different generations and different places, people whose earthly paths never crossed, all together because they belonged to Christ.
And the wonderful thought is this:
The Lord already knows every name.
May we never grow tired of telling others about Jesus. Someone we speak to today may be someone we meet again someday—at the banquet.
