@jmhenner would have wanted you to donate, if you can, or share, or both.
If you can help in any way, it will help me feel like I’m not fighting for our kids all by myself.

Just learned a deaf patient entered urgent care in Texas. A Video Remote Interpreting machine was brought in. Here's what happened next. (Thread)

Home is never where we are born.. it is where we are loved unconditionally by people who accept us and protect us with everything they have. Home is that place we can be ourselves without caution or fear of judgement. I’m so happy you found your home 💙

@Photo_SteveF it’s a hell of a ride. Sorry you’re joining the cancer club… hopefully treatments keep apace and we’re around for many years and decades yet. I would love to die of old age.
How to sign the word “crip” in “crip linguistics” - the (ASL) video and text in the post are content-wise equivalent to each other.

Video is open captioned, and features a (disabled) person making a burrito at 3am to check that they’re not in an institution.
It takes a while to let go of past dreams and plans, and not immediately subbing in Another Concrete Goal is a softening into how gently and easily I can hold (or not-hold) each moment. Becoming is hard. Largely because it can be easy! I’m still not used to this.
I’ve read Wordsworth wrote “the world is too much with us” about industrialization, but that poem’s title especially resonates for me about a world that is often Inexorably Here, and Very Big, and who am I anyway in the face of so much Muchness?

Something that I still struggle w/ is how f*cking annoying I find it to be a trauma survivor-- to have to look at everything in my life through that lens. To not be able to take a day off.
We can be annoyed by trauma recovery & remain committed to recovery at the same time.

Healing and working through grief is possible, but that doesn’t mean it goes away.
We do the work so that our grief leaves the driver’s seat of our lives.
We do the work to create healthy tissue around the scarring.

You’re not lazy or unmotivated. You’re exhausted AF from processing and unburdening from the trauma passed on to you from your ancestors.
This. Well. I don’t always give myself plenty of time to get ready, but definitely the rest of the thread.
.@jmhenner was generous with sharing language when I was new to ASL, with intros when I was new to meeting other DHH researchers, with humor, advice, and company through cancer (our last convo started with me texting photos of the chalky barium dip at my PET scan this month) 1/n
If I’d gone to Hershey’s deaf program instead of IMSA, we would have barely overlapped in high school. As a kid, he played hockey at the rink down the street from my home. It would have been nice to meet him earlier, but I’m glad I met him when I did - glad I met him, period. 3/n
