Robert McChesney lays out a model for what a perfectly free & democratic media would look like & what it would cost & why it's not all that different from US's first century when federal govt massively subsidized newspapers through the post office catalyst-journal.com/2023/06…

Tenant showing his landlord the Paris Commune's decree that 3 months of rent have been cancelled. Landlord literally doing the crying soyjack face. Political cartoon from 1871

pewresearch.org/short-reads/… Pretty great numbers. Among all Democrats, the like/dislike is 3 to 1. And that ratio rises directly proportional to how much they care about politics, reaching 4.5 to 1 among those most engaged.

Aside from the shocking substance of this story, what's amazing is how it was unearthed by Cole. The short version: The Russians were able to penetrate Jared Kushner's iPhone and extract screenshots and data. Then, a Russian intel official was captured by Dutch intelligence (!) and flipped. The Dutch believed Kushner may have been acting on behalf of Russia, so pursued him as an intel target and were able to get into his phone. They did not find any evidence of Russian collusion, instead they watched him moving hundreds of millions of dollars from slush funds created by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, one of them housed in Israel's central bank. Incredible reporting, and if Democrats have any sense, they will pull on these threads and learn a lot more about this money.
Explosive story many years in the making, now out in Vanity Fair by Matthew Cole (who will be on Breaking Points next week, and publishing soon in @DropSiteNews): Saudi Arabia and the UAE set up multi-billion slush funds for Jared Kushner to use. Iran-Contra 2 here (except with Iran-Contra, at least the US got some hostages released. Not clear what we got out of this one.)

Fun fact: Claire Valdez (10/12) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (10/13) were born one day apart in 1989. And soon, they'll represent neighboring Congressional Districts in NYC. Big win for Millennial, Libra, Democratic Socialists!
Whether she’s taking on corporate greed, opposing unjust wars, or fighting alongside workers, @aoc has shown us what fearless leadership looks like — and what it means to build power together. Grateful for her endorsement and even prouder to be in this movement with her.

This past Valentine’s Day, 71-year-old Brad Reese, proud grandson of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups inventor H. B. Reese, posted a scathing open letter to the manager of corporate brand and editorial at Hershey, accusing the company of unforgivably altering many Reese’s products by replacing real chocolate with compound chocolate — basically using vegetable oils instead of cocoa butter to lower costs and replacing real peanut butter with “peanut-butter-style crèmes.” “And Reese wasn’t alone in feeling like everything was getting worse,” writes Rachel Handler. “Everyone in my life I spoke to agreed that something was amiss, that Reese’s — and commercial chocolate in general — didn’t taste the way it used to.” Handler would spend the next several months tumbling down a chocolate vortex, encountering dozens of eccentric characters, all disagreeing about the fundamental question of what chocolate even is and who it should be for. “I learned that — not to sound like a LinkedIn guy — what’s going on with chocolate is a parable for the modern world. That at this particularly bleak end stage of capitalism, everything we once treasured has or will lose its essential essence and MrBeast will always be involved somehow.” For our cover story, Handler takes a deep dive into the molten belly of the chocolate world. No you see when Neera spends months on end trashing democrats, most recently El Sayed by implying he hates America and is a fraud, this isn’t “in fighting” it’s doing what’s needed to help Dems win. When Democrats criticize centrist avatars for billionaires it’s wrecker behavior
Maybe a little self-awareness, @neeratanden. Look through your own feed. Throughout the Wisconsin Primary up to the election you’re trashing one candidate & we asked you to please keep it down. I agree going after each other at certain times is bad. But may I suggest a mirror?

Pretty much the only mainstream column warning about our creep toward world war, and it argues that it's *antiwar attitudes* & US reluctance to wage war on Russia that's the reason behind it. Perverse & nonsensical.
