We’ve reached peak Canadiana here at the March to the Match and arrived at Princes’ Gate near the stadium. A man wearing a cowboy hat, fur coat, carrying a Tim Hortons whips everyone into a frenzy as they finish singing O Canada. It’s 25 C and brilliantly sunny.

Baseball breaks your heart, and the Blue Jays are a Hall of Fame what if team, now. So what does it mean to watch your team lose the World Series in one of the great games ever played? It means you got to feel something; you just didn’t get to choose what. thestar.com/sports/blue-jays…

What do we want? Restore US manufacturing! How we gonna do it? Force a shrinking US manufacturing industry to pay import taxes to the feds, and then re-route the money to soy farmers!
Scoop: Hill Republicans estimate Trump will need to send as much as $50 billon to farmers hit by his tariffs Trump admin plans to roll out billions from USDA But Treasury officials + others eyeing ways to tap tariff revenue, without a fight in Congress politi.co/42ptmOt

There is definitely a sense that we are seeing a systematic devaluation of institutional knowledge in favor of some form of misguided intuition. No one disagrees that there was waste and inefficiency before, but there's just been broad confusion and unnecessary firings, which is even more wasteful and inefficient when you have to hire those people back. When Singapore says America has transformed from "liberator to great disruptor to a rent-seeking landlord" they're describing shift in how power views its responsibility. The model has moved from "trust but verify" to "dismiss and replace" (and trust is expensive, we have lost so much of it, for many reasons). This is where hubris is a necessity. Implementing 'not knowing' as policy is an unbearable expense. We're entering a period of huge global destabilization - the housing market, AI, geopolitical realignment - and the cost of getting things wrong isn't just financial, it's existential in the form of decades of built-up expertise, trust, and global stability.

This is new info for me. I am just seeing the documents from UVic now thanks to you. I have no detailed remarks on the report until I read further. In my mind a community as large as UVic should have a pool and local governments should not be paying for it as a core service.

I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.   In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.   Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.

Any good content on how these tariffs aren’t fucking stupid? Real question. Would appreciate any reads this being good strategy Everything I’ve read so far is just “This guy is a fucking idiot and nothing in any field says this is a good idea”, so hoping to hear the other side

Trump is about to throw 150 years of economics, 80 years of global trade policy and more than 35 years of free trade agreements with Canada and Mexico out the window with the stroke of a pen, and there are people in Canada who are defending him. Think about that.
