Memphis opens as 13.5 point underdogs against Iowa St
Not a betting expert but I’d imagine this line will be moving heavily toward Memphis.
Iowa state presumably will be without its two best players in Killyan Toure (Shoulder) and Tamin Lipsey (Ineligible)

Memphis PG Jayden Reid (@jaydenreid0) looked like an early candidate for AAC POTY in their blowout exhibition win over Mississippi State.
26 PTS | 11-15 FG | 2-4 3PT | 4 AST | 3 STL | in 34 minutes
Reid orchestrated the offense extremely well today while showcasing his own shot creating ability. A big upgrade over Dug McDaniel.
Coming from Northwestern, I was really excited to see how Reid would look in a much higher paced system like Memphis. Reid and Memphis fit really well, especially being surrounded by capable shotmakers.
Final:
Memphis 75
Miss St: 58
Lots of good to takeaway here. Jayden Reid was absolutely sensational. 26 points in his first outing as a tiger.
Pop: 11 pts
Almodovar: 11 pts
Vavers: 10 pts
Notably, Josh Hubbard did play for Miss state but he was clearly not 100%. He only took a few shots.
Love what we’ve seen so far as Memphis leads Miss St 39-35 at half.
Takeaways:
-Jayden Reid is cooking offensively. Already looks much better than Dug last year.
-Popovich is going to provide a lot of scoring for the Tigers down low. Shades of Dain Dainja
- if I had one negative to point out it would be that the tigers are pretty thin down low. State is scoring relatively easily at the rim right now.
Tiger basketball is back today! Tigers heading down to Starkville for an exhibition against Josh Hubbard and friends.
Should be a perfect matchup to see what we got

Nobody has even mentioned the fact that ECU genuinely had to make a QB change and we are still losing 16-3

Brandin Cummings is a player I haven’t forgotten about.
The move to Memphis and playing for Penny Hardaway could be exactly what he needs to fully break out.
Crafty, shifty and highly skilled, Cummings gets to his spots and can score at all three levels.
His handle and playmaking took a step forward last season, averaging 12.5 PPG and 2.1 APG before injury cut his year short.
His usage rate climbed from roughly 16.6% as a freshman to 24.8% as a sophomore
Healthy and positioned to be a focal point for Memphis.

More from Memphis’ secret scrimmage: Tigers defense forced Jacksonville State into 20 turnovers.
Source in attendance on defense/pace:
“Memphis pressed them every time after FTs and makes, which created a lot of chaos. Their halfcourt defense was really physical and got JSU out of a lot of actions that they wanted to run. Memphis also killed JSU with their pace in transition.”
Seems like Memphis is going back to their high-pressure defense to pair with their usual high-paced offensive emphasis this season (33rd in pace last season, 25th in 25-26 season), something we didn’t see effectively last season.
Jacksonville State was missing two key big in Croley and Walker, and Memphis’ bigs took full advantage.
- 50 points in the paint!!
- 21 second chance points
- 20 Off REB
Source in attendance: ⬇️
“Popovic should be the AAC POTY with how physical and skilled he is. Logue was really good off the bench. He is super physical and finishes well with his left hand.
Deng was surprisingly good and could work his way into the rotation more. Whorton was solid too. You can tell Penny trusts him and he will bring great energy off the bench with his length.“
Memphis takes a horrific loss to UAB , later finds out coach had a handshake deal with Arkansas.
