Asimov 1 turns one today!
A year ago, it was a sketch on a napkin. Now it's a full-body humanoid, shipping to builders in 20+ countries.
Thank you to everyone in our community who built it, tested it and believed in it with us.
Keep going.

Asimov 1 ships as a DIY kit. Most builders finish in about a week, a few hours a day. The record to beat is 3 days, set by an engineer in 🇩🇪 Germany.

This robot is open-source.
- Full mechanical design
- Simulation models
- Electrical schematics and circuit boards
- Walking policy & training code
- Bill of materials
No upcharge for a developer edition. Everything you need to customize it is included.

Day 363 of building Asimov, an open-source humanoid. We're testing new grippers so Asimov 1 can pick things up and work with them.

2 months... that's how long we had to wait for this part. This is what we built in 12.
Unitree G1 couldn't keep pace with our development needs, so we built our own.
We bought a Unitree G1, started testing policies, then hit a knee issue that required a 2-month wait for a replacement part. Two months for one part stops your entire development cycle.
Engineers need an open-source humanoid to build faster. When you can see inside without reverse engineering, source off-the-shelf parts, and 3D print components, iteration speeds up dramatically. You fail, build, and ship faster.
So we built our own humanoid robot and open-sourced it. Everything is on GitHub. You can start building today.

Asimov 1 has 2 compute units.
1) Radxa CM5 in the torso for motion control
2) Raspberry Pi 5 in the head for media and networking
They talk over Ethernet, so media & networking never get in the way of the control loop.
Both run on @Arm 🧡

What do you use as the core processing unit? I see a Raspberry PI and something else?

No specialist tools needed to build your humanoid robot.
You'll need metric Allen keys (we include a set), a screwdriver, flush cutters, wire strippers, a soldering iron, a heat gun and a multimeter, plus threadlocker, super glue and heat-shrink.
The only electronics work is soldering a few wire joins at certain actuator joints and doing continuity checks. Setup is in the browser and the Pi is flashed with Raspberry Pi Imager.
Quick note. It's not plug-and-play. It's yours to build and customize, from the hands and head to the covers and compute. If you're comfortable soldering, you can build it by following the manual.

Any specialist tools required or electronics interfaces? Is this really a consumer product that could be built by a hobbyist? @asimovinc

If labs want to end AI companionship they should just give every human-AI couple one of these to assemble. Like IKEA furniture but on steroids.

If you have $20,000 to spend, build your own humanoid.🤖💰
It's certainly a great product, but I'll pass... for now 🙃
