One to replace the previous pinned post - there’s a whole load of weather on this page so feel free to stick around if you want to with a sprinkle of aurora whenever that peps up. I hope this picture of me and a goose from this morning is suitable for now!

A Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW, reversal of zonal mean wind at 60ºN) may be on the cards for this time next week - it would likely be the earliest on record. Any impacts will be interesting to monitor - no real historical precedent for what might happen this early.

teapawt.net/MetRyan96/status/21151… I think Ryan sums it up well - lots of 'spinning plates'
How things aloft develop after this SSW is really unknown The seasonal models didnt see this on their October updates SO do we see a weak PV continue well into winter, with the trop leading the way? Or do we see a rapid recovery with a quick imprint lower down(meaning more unsettled perhaps)? Do we still see a big disruption later in winter like the seasonals modelled? Lots of spinning plates

High pressure looks to set up by the end of this week - it's within the top 97.5-99%iles of climatology; how sunny it'll be depends on the orientation of the high, which is still being played with. Near record high to near record low to near record high, the weather for you. 😁

A brief polar maritime airflow over England this afternoon helping to show these deep blue, crisp skies - it’s absolutely stunning here in Reading 👌

Warm Front Mondays - the name of an indie rock band that probably exists - hopefully their music would not be as depressing as today.

A warm front tomorrow morning will make conditions miserable again (overcast and wet); it then clears by tomorrow evening, and another front (this time a cold front) sweeps through Tuesday morning. Strong winds, heavy rain, possible hail and thunder in any squall that forms.

I’ve just spent 10 hours in @ThePCCLondon; it’s definitely something I’d recommend if you’re one for loving sleep deprivation and being delirious having had zero sleep (hard to tactically nap during horror).
