imagine surviving a competition where everyone else is dead, only to sit down for a press conference where reporters behave as if you’ve just won a golf tournament. that’s the brilliance of snl’s hunger games press conference. katniss and peeta have survived a televised fight to the death, but the media wants sound bites, silly questions, and the usual post-event drama. one reporter is more concerned about food than the people who died. another treats the killings like an impressive sporting performance. the joke is how quickly a horrifying event gets flattened into ordinary media coverage.
