🌍🎶 Op-Ed: Does the CIA Control Afrobeats?
The belief in CIA takeover of Afrobeats, popularized recently by media platform The Spearhead, is the result of historical and contemporary anxieties that revive questions of authenticity and ownership that have trailed the genre since its late-2010s global success.

Must be hard being a bird in this country
God is heavily with me.
Driving along Calabar by pass road. This bird sighted us, flew to the road, landed in the middle of the road.
When our vehicle approached, the power of God arrested this bird and it could not leave that spot again. I came down spoke few tongues and lifted it.
For those who do not know this bird, this is the bird that cries at midnight and is commonly used by the forces of darkness for different assignments.

I respect it too.
It’s good that the Catholic Church does not pretend that Christianity respects women as equal human beings to men.
They should continue laying out a clear case for women should not be Christians let alone Catholics.

Yes and yes. I'd say the Teju Cole profile too.
As far as touchstone profiles go in Nigerian journalism in the last 10 years and perhaps even more, Ahmad Salkida's profile of Abubakar Shekau and Otosirieze Obi-Young's profile of Wole Soyinka have to be mentioned.
GRACIAS Leo Messi 🐐

What's "reasonable" here is the video being interpreted in its proper context. It is satire, it riffs on a popular TikTok joke, and is "widely" understood as a joke. It's unreasonable to read the video "literally," or to make slippery slope arguments ("the video will cause harm")
Nah, it's a joke & widely understood as one on TikTok & by reasonable people. You can even argue that the video is a satirical critique of the popular idea that Gen Z are incompetent. Satire uses humor & exaggeration.
Only the heavy-handed school authorities deserve criticism.
Everybody is criticising the institution—and rightly so—but I think the message the students passed across should also be criticised. For a field as vital and sensitive as healthcare, "no sick o, Na Gen Z full hospital" is such a wrong message. Would have had my full support if it was a different message.
