A lot of people think I’m good with computers. I think that’s sorta imprecise. What I’m actually good at is guessing what people who are good at computers were thinking when they wrote the software I’m using.
Why did @Tailscale email me apologizing for picking a Harry Potter movie? Are we so offended by, idk, JKR, that we are going to forever cancel what's not only a good story, but involved thousands of other innocent individuals in a massive and high quality generational production?
Is this, like, the first time the US government has used lethal force against a drug smuggler or something? We are out here trying to fight every battle and that's why we can't win any.
The worst place for finding EV chargers isn't the boonies. It's just north of NYC. Yonkers or so. Everywhere else I've been on the east coast has been great.
Stopped for a drink at connivence store & I nice older man asked me what this was? Told him Cybertruck. Asked me who makes it? Tesla. Asks “is it good on gas?” Told him it’s electric. “Oh I don’t like that. You know if you go somewhere you won’t find chargers & be stuck.” 🤦🏼♂️ Bless his heart, I told him I’ve driven from PA to AL 3 times round trip in it. 🤷♂️ He nodded & drove away shaking his head.
The left doesn't attack the idea of prayer. We attack the performative nature of tweeting about prayer in lieu of real action when, once again, children have died.
If you don't think prayer is a substitute for action, then why do we yet never see action?
This is actually great. I say, "actually" because despite a large number of naysayers who think flying or driving are actually good options, you can walk around on the train, do work from the train, and generally have a day. The 7 hours are low cost.
Twitter is once again demonstrating to me that people don't know the difference between proof and demonstration.
Now I want to see the movie where Lex Luthor steals Superman's dog, but John Wick owes Supes a favor.
It's baffling to me that the major image vendors don't ship client-only images of database. Official `mysql`, `mariadb` and `postgres` client-only images would be much smaller than the server images and would be widely used.
I wonder how often people don't open a bug report because they think, "There's no way Google has missed this for years."
First of all, yes there is, and second of all, maybe they didn't, and you could still learn something.
The context in which software is used is inextricable from claims about its stability and security. Thus, I think this claim, absent relevant context about the 99% of extant rust programs, is meaningless.
This is wrong thinking. Safety is always an imperfect, layered proposition. The reason you have the layers is because you can't have all the layers all the time. It's entirely incorrect to suggest that ever using `unsafe` means "not actually getting memory safety".
🧵Correlation is not causation.
Hawaii and Alaska have high costs because of fuel import costs and relative isolation.
The Northeast has tight natural gas pipeline restrictions and high winter demand spikes.
