One more week. Fired up. Ready to go.
Since Obama is back on the stump today, here’s your reminder of the best political speech of my lifetime. If you haven’t heard it or haven’t heard it in a while, enjoy getting fired up and ready to go. 👊🏼 🌊

TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

Anesthesiologists:
This is a slide from Terence Tao's 'Math 2.0' public lecture yesterday evening at Caltech. I am highly confident that, if the cure actually worked, almost any Stage 4 cancer patient would tell you that human comprehension of its mechanism is completely irrelevant to them.

Every child should get to go to a good school. *Your* child is in a position of extraordinary vulnerability and dependence on *you*, which comes with an obligation to try to do right by them in particular, just like if you are a nurse you have particular obligations to your patients and if you are an employer you have particular obligations to your employees. That's not an obligation to send them to private school! But it's an obligation to make sure they are safe at school, check regularly what they're learning, make sure they are literate and numerate even if the school fails to make sure of that, and change things if the situation they're in is really bad for them. We wouldn't think much of a nurse who doesn't give their patient the recommended treatment because 'why are you any more deserving than destitute people who can't get treatment'. The nurse may go join Doctors Without Borders if he wishes; that would be a commendable thing to do. But when people depend on us, and have no resort to anyone else, we must do right by them.
I notice none of Nikole Hannah-Jones' critics try to answer to the basic question she wrestled with, which is: Why should my daughter get to go to a better school than other people's kids just because I work for the New York Times?

Wrote about how we need to all go back to church (or at least some physical, in-person place) so we can bring back shame. Digital shaming is actually making everyone more of an asshole. Need to bring back communal shaming. newyorker.com/news/fault-lin…

New York Regents member Felicia Thomas-Williams on why she thinks students shouldn’t have to take Regents exams to graduate: “You don’t assess a fish on climbing a tree because fish can’t climb trees” Maybe asking a student to read or do math on a test is a little more reasonable than asking a fish to climb a tree? 🤔

Trapped 22-year-old Marsh McLennan broker Paul Battaglia calls 9-1-1 and alerts the dispatcher: “I’m on the 100th floor of the World Trade Center with thirty people, northeast corner. The smoke is very bad. We need people here immediately. A lot of smoke, we can’t see anything. We’re all on the floor. There’s heat!” A woman in the background is heard to scream “it’s too hot!” They are roasting alive.
