You can hate on military movies or Pratt all you want but I actually think we need more movies like this. Specifically, the live action PG and PG-13 movie. Everything now is edgy and R and for adults or a cartoon. If Karate Kid came out today you’d have a bunch of A24 disciples on Twitter talking about how bad it looks. This isn’t for you. We need more live action movies that kids and their parents can watch together. We’ve lost the Sandlots and Mighty Ducks and Mrs Doubtfires. I hope, at the very least, this does well enough to green light more family friendly movies.

This has been my hope with the renewed interest in Narnia: people seeking out the books. And even better to have bookstores tell them to start with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Sophisticated AI phishing scam I nearly fell for. A journalist supposedly from Reuters reaches out with a request that sounds plausible because it is an AI that has read what I've been posting and I quite often get DMs like this.
They want to schedule a call chat a bit and then send a calendly link (again all sound legit as is an AI and urls arent full visible in x DMs). They have an account on X that superficially look legit, has been seeded and is 10 years old with reasonable number of followers. The calendly link is a phishing scam to capture your X account. This stuff is going to get wild, with agents.

“Coyote vs. Acme,” the live-action/animation hybrid that was dumped by Warner Bros. and rescued by Ketchup Entertainment, crossed the $100 million mark at the global box office this weekend.
The success of the movie cannot be overstated. We look at how the movie, dumped by Warner Bros., made a miraculous return thanks to efforts from Maximum Effort and 42West that leaned on its death and resurrection.

I think this is so wonderful. In a time when marriage rates are declining, here she is openly celebrating her husband.

There's been a lot of talk in recent days about "conservative movies." I wrote a long piece for @NRO on this earlier this year. You're welcome to read it. Link below.
Some quick thoughts:
A "conservative movie" doesn't need to be politically right-wing or made by right-wingers. It can be made by anyone. What it must do is point us toward the Permanent Things or mourn their absence.
Here are some tests:
1) Is anyone in the movie answerable to an order higher than their own preferences? This is perhaps the most crucial one.
2) Does the film stir gratitude for civilizational inheritances? A shared enemy alone doesn't cut it. What's the movie actually for?
3) Did the film earn its moral vision, or does it only announce it? Setting a movie in a barrack or a church doesn't mean it's conservative.
Some other reminders:
If you're looking for a movie to tell you how to vote, what you really want is a campaign ad.
If you pick movies by the politics of the people behind them, you're curating a voter guide, not engaging in aesthetic discernment.
If the only movies you recognize as conservative are those that address hot-button political issues, you may need a more generous understanding of what conservatism seeks to conserve.
