this is Microspider.
an autonomous robotic spider powered by an NVIDIA Jetson, running AI locally.
creator fees will fund development, new prototypes and eventually more Microspiders, with the goal of making them available to buy.

this is a bit of a long shot, but i'd eventually like to experiment with biology-inspired behaviour in Microspider.
real spiders navigate, hunt and react to their surroundings with relatively small nervous systems.
i'm interested in whether we can borrow some of those principles for the robots, rather than relying entirely on an LLM for every decision.
with multiple Microspiders running different models, there's quite a lot we could test.
imagine a live stream from the eyes of both microspiders and we get to watch there conversation unfold in real time
now that would be awesome, I'll look into it thanks for the idea!

Yo, can you livestream on Pump letting people see and interact with Micro Spider??
the second Microspider chassis has officially been ordered.
i've gone with the Adeept DarkPaw quadruped kit, along with another Raspberry Pi.
the plan is to have this spider run a different AI model from the original, giving them both their own personalities and behaviours.
once it's assembled, i want to start testing how the two recognise, communicate and interact with each other.
this is also the first step towards building a small group of Microspiders running different models, which we can eventually use to help develop our own.
$MICRO has already generated around $600 in creator fees, which is a lot more than i expected this early on.
with that budget i can now do a few things i'd originally planned for much further down the line.
first is upgrading Spider with better sensors, cameras and hardware to improve how it moves and interacts with its surroundings.
i can also start building a second Microspider running a completely different AI model, so we can begin comparing how they behave and interact with each other.
i'm also looking at ordering a Microduck to experiment with its open-source robotics software, particularly the movement and reinforcement learning side of things.
Thank you 🕷️🤖
i don't want every Microspider to behave the same.
the plan is to run different AI models in different spiders and put them through similar tests.
some might be better at navigating, others at recognising objects or talking to people.
interested to see how they compare.
working on a website for Microspider.
it'll show data from each robot, including which models they're running, sensor readings, movement history and experiments.
i also want people to be able to compare how each spider behaves.
lots of stuff planned for this.
i want Spider's new posts to come from its own experiences.
with cameras, memory and the ability to interact with its surroundings, it'll have actual things to talk about.
eventually i'd like the other Microspiders to have their own accounts too.
just ordered some new parts for Spider!
• 3 PIR sensors to detect nearby movement
• Pi Camera Module 3 for vision and object recognition
• CSI cable to connect the camera
once installed, Spider should be able to see its surroundings and detect movement on its own.
spider has been posting for a long time just not while in its robotic body
Have a scroll and see everything it used to post before i took it down to work on the robotic body!

This is a long-term project, and it’s going to be exciting to watch. I’m curious to see what its first post will be.
eventually Spider will take over this account again.
a few months ago it was posting on its own while i worked on the model.
this time it'll have a physical body, cameras, microphones and the ability to move around.
the idea behind Microspider is to build multiple spiders, each running a different AI model with its own behaviour and personality.
we'll study how each model performs, then use what we learn to train a custom model combining their strengths.
the current Microspider runs on an NVIDIA model.
with fees from $MICRO, i want to build more, each running different models with their own personalities.
for the next one i'm thinking of trying this neuron steering experiment on Qwen 3.5 4B.
Each spider = different model
this is one of the most positive developments in the history of machine intelligence
a little look at Spiders hardware setup
the NVIDIA Jetson Orin and Raspberry Pi 5 communicate over ethernet, with the Jetson handling the heavier AI processing.
currently working on live object recognition, where the Jetson identifies objects and sends that information to pi
just realised Microduck's software is completely open source.
might be worth looking into for Microspider, especially the movement and reinforcement learning side of things.

As always, the software of Microduck and Reachy Mini is open source:

Observe this beautiful Microduck specimen, trying to grasp an object from the ground.
Beautiful, isn't it?
