The entire premise of Hatsunia is about being the futuristic country people expected Japan to be. iiwiki.us/wiki/Hatsunia
Japan is not futuristic Japan is a fossil stuck in 1990 99% of Westerners still don't get this Futuristic Asia is China, Korea, Vietnam, etc No Asian rates Japan for modernity at all

"Japan glazing" and "Japan demonizing" are both misguided.
The era of japan glazing on the internet is finally over.

There's a reason why I prefer post-cyberpunk (cyberprep) to cyberpunk and solarpunk.

(it doesn't involve an anarchist [i.e. -punk] philosophy that wants to tear down society and replace it with small-scale communes)

Japan's economy in the 1980s was a bubble, but what if it kept growing, and Japan continued to be an economic and technological superpower engaged in a second Space Race? "The Country that Bought the World" by Senkosansan deviantart.com/senkosansan/a…

There's something about Y2K or neo-Y2K style electronic music that sounds more futuristic than today. Personally, I'd like Ace Combat 9's music to sound like this. I even made a playlist. youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…
if you ask me, ace combat 9's (AC3²?) music would in its ideal form try not to step on the toes of AC3’s original vision and instead reinterpret the setting to be more era-appropriate; instead of acid techno and jungle i’d really love to see drumstep, psytrance, glitch, etc.

Just give me that Y2K futurism aesthetic and soundtrack, please
When AC9 releases in whatever year in the 2030s I want this to play when I first boot it up

The liberal theory of international relations would say cooperation and friendly competition is possible. The realist theory of IR would say conflict over geopolitical interests is inevitable.
The question is: if Japan did not lose its economic and technological competitiveness after the 1990s, would it be welcomed as a fellow competitor or viewed as a threat?

Someone made a video claiming that even if China was democratic, the US would still try to sabotage it like Japan in the 1980s out of anti-Asian racism. She even used my meme. Then she praised Xi Jinping afterwards for “challenging US/Western hegemony.”
On the one hand, the possibility of being seen as a threat is always there. On the other hand, Japan is fairly democratic and genuinely open to anyone willing to see the country for what it is, at least so long as they "do as the Romans do." Same can't be said for the PRC.

Then in 2009, Friedman's "The Next 100 Years" predicted that China would decline and that there would be a war between the US and a Japan-Turkey alliance by the 2050s. youtube.com/watch?v=d1A62wLr… (McKnight's "Second Renaissance" worldbuilding project was inspired by this)
In 1991, George Friedman wrote "The Coming War with Japan," believing that the US and Japan would become the main economic and geopolitical rivals after the decline of the USSR. (Video by The Alternate Historian, map recreation by Sean McKnight) youtube.com/watch?v=jX7TH5Jf…

October 21, 2015 in Back to the Future Part II (1989) was intended to be a subversion of dark and gritty cyberpunk media like Blade Runner. But it was still based on the 1980s idea that Japan would become an economic superpower (the fear of which being known as “Japan-bashing”).

Hatsunia represents an optimistic counterpart to the trope of “Japan as a dystopian Cyberpunk superpower” and tech doomerism in general. So it is inspired by aesthetics like Cyberprep and Frutiger Aero, which emphasize "the positives of technological advancement."
