People are trying to be smart---all I'm trying to do is not to be idiotic, but it's harder than most people think.

Oh FFS. Thank you for your concern Sam, but don’t spread your FUD and doom bait in my waters.
I lead one of the most utilized Linux operating systems in the world for data centers and enterprises, and I founded its predecessor too.
While AI is surely accelerating finding human created security issues, it is a temporary problem, and most open source project leads have already figured out how to also use AI to reduce new bugs moving forward.
Here is a graph from GKH (who maintains the stable kernel) on how many CVEs they are remediating per release:

This graph describes how much better each release is now getting:

This doom based marketing approach that the AI labs are pushing is really short sighted. While this will of course drive business to us, I find it unethical to distort the truth and use scare tactics in messaging.
The greater truth is that AI is making the software industry more secure, by identifying the human errors in code, and soon we will end up in a much better place.
🚨Sam Altman says the internet can no longer be SECURED by patching bugs.
"I no longer think we're going to be able to just patch all the bugs," the OpenAI CEO said, warning smarter models can find "hardware level insane stuff."
He says OpenAI can't responsibly open source its best model "anytime soon," but the open source world isn't far behind: "Not super."

“With these new models, it’s going to be more guerrilla war… we’re all in a ‘how quickly can you mitigate and how quickly can you shoot back’ environment.”
“These models are excruciatingly adept at finding attack vectors that a human would not be able to find.”
Apollo is having its day:
“The only unique thing we’re doing there, which is pretty helpful, is how can you patch the penetration vectors that were unknown quicker than they can be exploited?”
CEOs are done paying AI to leak their secrets.
They’re livid: tokens that create zero value while their IP walks out the door to competitors.
“Most CEOs I deal with compare this to some kind of venereal disease. They’re really, really upset.”

“We built this model on 160 years of McCarthy experience, and it outperforms the frontier at a lower cost. No one else can pick it up, because it is tuned to how we build.” - Rico Bertucci, McCarthy
The world is changing in ways most don’t see, owning your intelligence AND outpacing the frontier is possible.

The invasion of Ukraine has taught me that Elon sees these things as some sort of Polytopia game where, if you have more resources, you should be able to have your way with the smaller civilization, completely disregarding the humanitarian aspect of our existence. Pretty sad.
This is a very important distinction. If the country that is being invaded is defending itself, is it still an offensive operation?
A Republican lawmaker questioned Elon Musk’s argument for throttling Ukraine’s access to SpaceX’s Starlink satellite terminals, arguing that Ukrainian forces use the system defensively in the war with Russia. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Pain is a moat
“All medicine is kind of poison.”
“Getting people to accept and embrace the thing that actually works……not on paper, for real……is the hard part.”
“If you’re in an environment where you believe artistry is what creates a certain kind of beauty, and you see it work over and over, you get more comfortable with the psychological pain that comes with it. Over time you start to associate that pain with something that’s working.”

The data center/GPU/power supply chain conflicts seem solvable because they are positive sum conflicts where everyone can end up better off. Those conflicts may be a distraction from the far more adversarial, and ravenous, consumption of intellectual capital that defines the data supply chains.

Elon Musk claims that Ukraine allegedly violated Starlink's terms of use and used the system on combat drones.
As someone who was inside the process at the Ministry of Defense, I can say with certainty that this is not true.
In February of this year, whitelists were introduced. Stationary terminals could be registered by both military personnel and civilians.
But for any satellite terminal to work while on the move, it had to be added to a special list and connected to the military Starshield system. Otherwise, no satellite communication terminals in Ukraine would work.
In other words, using civilian Starlink for drone missions was technically impossible. All drone missions that required satellite communication could only be carried out using Starshield.
We are very grateful to the United States and SpaceX for access to critically important satellite communications. Ukraine did not violate the terms of use.
$PLTR This is why Palantir will continue to lead in the application of AI systems at scale.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp says CEOs are "livid" because they're paying for tokens that create no value, and doubly paying because "some portion of their IP has been migrated to their competitor."
"Most CEOs I deal with compare this to some kind of venereal disease."
"They're less upset now because the sovereign platform shows them that they can actually enjoy the product without getting something that they don't want to have for the rest of their life."
"What we're seeing in the next version is—you could even white label this if you want, and use that as your IP to expand into other verticals."
