#OnThisDay 1974: CEEFAX - the world's first teletext service - went live, with a whopping 30 pages of information at your fingertips. In 1972, David Wilson chatted to project lead Stanley Edwardson about this newfangled service, and got a sneak peak at a CEEFAX prototype.

Meet the radio-obsessed civilian shaping Ukraine’s drone defense - MIT Technology Review "Since Russia’s invasion, Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov has become an influential, if sometimes controversial, force—sharing expert advice and intel on the ever-evolving technology that’s taken over the skies. His work may determine the future of Ukraine, and wars far beyond it." technologyreview.com/2024/09…

38 YEARS AGO: In Sep 1986 I launched the first affordable IBM-compatible PC - the Amstrad PC1512 - youtube.com/watch?v=5PYpMXse… In the presentation video we showed our competitors' PCs, all costing around £2,000, then a gasp of amazement from the audience when we announced OUR price of £399. For those who are interested in the technicalities of the PC1512 story, why it conquered Europe and how it smashed IBM’s dominance, take a look at this 👇

I was about to trash talk what the hell is virtual sensor with machine learning, turns out coca-cola people model the back emf of the dispensor's flow control module by taylor expansion of pressure into 26 terms of 6 features (time, voltage etc.), and got ~90% accuracy +- 10 psi.

This video of Peter Mansfield stuffing himself into his experiment in the 1970s is great. He can barely fit inside the body coil, the size of the electronics and compute were barely feasible. Some people thought the magnetic field would kill you, so Mansfield got in it himself.

Positive mental health is so important. Please take a look at Michael’s thread. Men particularly find it very difficult to discuss life stuff, we often won’t be able to talk about feeling lonely or sad. Finding a group, club, hobby or activity with others can be a good first step

Looks like our @visioneng Mantis has encountered the cutest of obstacles! 🐱 No rush, quality PCB work is worth the wait, especially when there's a feline friend involved. 🐾 #CatsOfEngineering #PCBLife #VisionEngineering
I need to use my @visioneng Mantis for some PCB work but the mounting spigot on the bench is otherwise occupied. I'll have to wait till the occupant wakes up.

For all you #C #ubergeeks out there, I've just posted the first version (vector/list/deque/queue/stack) of my C implementation of the standard container library on Github. It's a bit of a metaprogramming marvel! Very happy to hear anyone's comments! github.com/nickpelling/C_STD

Steve was really kind and generous whenever I was on his show. He loved the craft, was passionate about the medium, and an absolute pro. And I especially loved the fact that allmypauseswereeditedout.
We’re incredibly saddened to announce that our friend and colleague Steve Wright MBE has passed away. We’ll miss you greatly Steve. 🧡

What’s a #BlackStart? Well it’s NOT an outage, power cut, loss of supply, localised fault, blown fuse, shutdown, trip, fault. It’s a TOTAL shutdown of the power system, with the desynchronisation of all power stations. It’s DEAD 😵 We have NEVER had one. So relax folks ☺️ [1/20]
