“Oct. 7 remains a devastating event, but Netanyahu’s supporters refuse to hang it around his neck or concede that Israel is losing more than it is winning." - @mkoplow in @nytopinion

Israel goes to the polls in a consequential election tomorrow, more than three years after October 7 and four years after the last election in 2022. With polls indicating an indecisive election, the final trends and things to watch on election day: 🧵
After October 7, the Israeli election shouldn’t be close, yet the likeliest scenario is deadlock. Bibi’s staying power is partially because of splits in the opposition, but also because many Israelis think he’s delivering what he long promised nytimes.com/2026/10/26/opini…
The clearest indication that Bibi doesn’t believe the Ch. 14 polling giving him a govt is his unscripted crypto insanity on Friday and the AI nuke post today. He’s panicking and the wheels are completely coming off. This is not a PM expecting a win on Tuesday.
For clues about what the next Israeli government might look like, or if there will even be one, here is what to watch on Tuesday when Israelis cast their votes and in the weeks after as the coalition negotiations kick into high gear israelpolicyforum.org/2026/1…

For anyone who thinks that it is fine for Israel to arrest Americans harvesting olives (which is a legit debate even as I strongly disagree), this is a former deputy attorney general of Israel. This govt can’t stop digging itself into a deeper and deeper hole.

We are deeply saddened by the death of our friend Aziz Alghashian (@AzizAlghashian). Aziz was one of the leading researchers of Saudi-Israel relations and a genuine bridge-builder who dedicated his life and his work to fostering greater understanding and tolerance in the Middle East and beyond. He was a well-known presence in Washington, where many relied on his insights and expertise, and he was always willing and eager to engage with everyone with respect and good humor. He will be sorely missed, both as a scholar and as a friend.
Below is a photo of Aziz (left) speaking alongside IPF's @dhalperin and @ReichmanShanie at Central Synagogue in NYC in June 2025.

The abundance of posts from diverse voices from across the globe is such a testament to the impact, character, and kindness of @AzizAlghashian. It underscores just how profound is our loss.
What a terrible shock. I saw Aziz in DC not even three weeks ago. Aziz was smart, funny, gregarious, engaging, always trying to learn more and never afraid to speak his mind or call things as he saw them. He was a trusted and compelling voice and a true friend. Allah yerhamu.
Deeply saddened by the loss of my friend, Saudi political researcher @AzizAlghashian.
A genuinely kind and thoughtful person. I always valued our conversations and his calm, insightful views, grounded in facts and free from prejudice.
May Allah grant him the highest place in Paradise.
Netanyahu has been waiting for this, but it’s not going to make a difference. The blocs are as hardened as they will be, Trump isn’t as popular with Israelis as he was, and the “Different League” argument from 2019 is harder when Israel is in a multi front diplomatic crisis

Many are worried over polls showing the Bibi bloc and the opposition bloc effectively tied. The opposition may end up unable to form a government, but more important than the numbers being obsessed over is which side has a plausible path and which doesn't israelpolicyforum.org/2026/1…

I wish there was a way to send them to live in Gaza under Hamas rule. After a while they'll learn the language & engage with Gazans, who according to polls overwhelmingly reject Hamas. They'll gradually recognize the brutal and authoritarian nature of the militia they adore from afar because it was successful in murdering Israelis.
NOW: "Long Live Hamas!" chants as protesters stormed and confronted the 'Israelis For Peace' vigil held at USQ, organizers say they hold the vigil regularly for the hostages and for Gaza.
