With a heavy heart, I share that my best friend, Poppy, passed away. Born: June 1, 2023. Adopted: August 18, 2023. Died: July 10, 2026.
She was the best companion I could have asked for. I will add to this thread later, for me the grief is still too near.
Requiescat in pace, Poppy.

Many of you are in the process of applying for jobs in academia and/or in industry.
As you prepare your job talks, consider giving it the following structure:
First, a short snippet of your overall set of technical accomplishments. For instance, you might spend the first 15 minutes giving short overviews of a few of your works/papers - it's also very good to draw a theme across them if there is one.
Second, you can spend the next 20-25 minutes doing a deep dive on *just one* of them - say, the one you're most proud of, or the one that matches the team/department interests and needs best.
Finally, use the last 5-10 minutes to summarize and talk about what you think are important new directions to pursue in research and how these could have impact on the field, the company, or the department and their areas of interest and growth.
It's hard to give a bad talk that's structured this way.

Arizona’s clocks never change
Tomorrow is the darkest morning of the ENTIRE year for about 200 million Americans...
It’s the last morning before clocks fall back, so sunrises are later than they’ll be at any point this winter.
Arizona, meanwhile, remains unbothered by any of these Daylight Savings posts as none of this applies to them.

I have not drunk water in the last 48 years — Billionaire Warren Buffett
Billionaire investor Warren Buffett has reportedly gone nearly five decades without drinking water, with his preferred beverage being Cherry Coke, according to fellow billionaire Bill Ackman.
Ackman, founder and CEO of Pershing Square, shared the surprising revelation during an appearance on the Equity Mates Investing podcast.
Recalling a dinner Buffett had at his home years ago, Ackman said he had stocked up on Cherry Coke, knowing it was the legendary investor’s favourite drink.
While they were at the dining table, Ackman offered Buffett still or sparkling water, but the 96-year-old declined and requested his usual soda instead.
Curious about his drinking habits, Ackman asked, “Don’t you drink water?”
According to him, Buffett replied, “Bill, I haven’t had water in 48 years.”
Buffett, who stepped down as Berkshire Hathaway’s CEO last December after six decades in the position and relinquished his chairmanship in September, is famously known for consuming about five cans of Coca-Cola daily.
In 2015, he jokingly described himself as “one-quarter Coca-Cola,” explaining that the beverage accounted for roughly 25 per cent of his daily calorie intake.
Beyond soda, Buffett is known for his preference for fast food and sugary treats, including McDonald’s, hot dogs, fries, popcorn, cookies, sweets and ice cream.
