"AI has discovered critical security vulnerabilities in PHP"... PHP itself is a critical security vulnerability. It can't be fixed, so just stop using it. Burn it to the ground and drop the ashes into the Mariana Trench so no one can ever rediscover it.

There is a new form of the anti-datacenter reaction that isn't about data centers. It's about Buc-ee's. People are now talking about moratoriums preventing large convenience/fuel stores. The common denominator is change and our politics and systems don't know how to deal with a community, market segment, or constituency that wants, even craves, stasis. How do we accommodate those who want stasis AND those who want growth and change in the same country?

"There is something wonderfully rascally about homo sapiens, some bit of scrappiness that has kept us alive all these years. To call this quality “intelligence” is to underrate it. It’s more like being a huge pain in the ass to the universe, and to all the forces within it that wish us dead." experimental-history.com/p/c…

The House @FinancialCmte and Senate finance committees should hold hearings on why stock share transfers are so hard and look for ways to modernize. The SpaceX transfer situation shows how completely antiquated some parts of our financial systems are.

So far I see no significant changes in the final CLD RFP. To paraphrase @rookisaacman , this is a job for Commerce!

"Novelty is not a regulatory gap" spacenews.com/the-u-s-alread… As a founder and GP at Starbridge Venture Capital, I spend a great deal of time looking at the long-term effects of space policy (both intentional and unintentional), and this issue has been brewing for a long time. I am still amazed that serious people read "authorize and supervise" in the OST to mean whatever they personally think it means. The treaties never defined those two terms because they knew it would never pass if they did. Our nation, most of the West, and international law follow the "general permission" or Lotus principle: "that which is not explicitly forbidden is allowed." Those who read their own interpretation into intentionally undefined terms would create a positive legal regime where everything is forbidden unless explicitly allowed. That is un-American. I have no issue with a voluntary informational mechanism within OSC, but I fear, as we saw during the last administration, an authorization regime hidden inside an opaque interagency process. That is just wrong. Any limits on authorization MUST come from specific, limited congressional legislation, not arbitrary bureaucrats.

The SpaceX IPO has one useful side effect: it illustrates with extreme clarity how messed up the stock transfer system is. It. Should. Not. Be. This. Hard!

In "The Economic Engine of Enduring Space Power," @crswope discusses why a strong national defense space capability depends heavily on a non-government (NASA or DoD) commercial space sector. He discusses the role of tax and regulatory incentives but probably didn't have the spare word count to dive into details. This thread contains a few points that should be considered now. csis.org/analysis/economic-e…

1) Reform SBA small business rules for frontier tech companies with high R&D expenses (already in progress by SBA) 2) Qualified Small Business Stock Capital Gains Exemptions (QSBS) reform for frontier tech companies whose first outside rounds are well over the $75 million valuation cap 3) Net Operating Loss sale exemption for qualified space companies 4) Transferable investment tax credits 4) A national-level (President or VP) cheerleader that helps the country understand how transformative an ambitious settlement and economic development of space mission could be 5) Expand the Office of Space Commerce by giving it transferable Advanced Market Commitments, interagency consultation authority, legislatively clear "shall issue" licensing authority, and a $400M budget to do all of that

I thought we were supposed to have had the CLD RFP out by now... There must be a serious rewrite going on.

In the early 90s, I talked about what the Internet could be, and everyone said it could never happen. Was I accurate in my timing? No. The Dot-Com bubble delayed some things. Did it matter in the end? No. In the early 2000s, I spoke out about where the space sector could be, and everyone said it could never be done. Was I accurate in my timing? In some ways, yes. In others, no. Will the exact timing matter in the end? No. I still expect a functional Lunar base and people walking on Mars by 2032.

A power source's signature, its heat, noise, and fuel convoys, grows with every watt of Diesel. AlumaPower's Galvanic Generator™ makes power through a direct electrochemical reaction, with no combustion and a fraction of the signature. #DefenseTech #EnergyResilience

Imagine a future where we limit a child's access to anything invented after 1980. Then, on their 18th birthday, you tell them what you did and why, and then hand them all the modern devices of that era. Imagine you are that child; how do you respond?

This is a serious issue even for tech people. Humans have a natural tendency to anthropomorphize everything. Its why we see faces in clouds or talk to our pets. Non-technology users of AI have no learned safeguards against assuming the AI is "human enough".
I think we have rampant anthropomorphism and it is likely going to become a religion and we need to develop a movement that is anti-anthropomorphic.

Humans will bring life to lifeless worlds. World's dead for billions of years will hear laughter.
I recently had a conversation with a NASA JPL engineer that was bemoaning the fact that the internal “Planetary Protection” department at NASA threw up substantial roadblocks for Mars missions in the name of protecting the pristine Martian environment. They will surely be apoplectic about this. I kind of think we should just get it over with and empty a septic tank on mars so nobody can imagine it needs dedicated protection. Project Vandalize Mars.

I predict that by the end of this year, a state or county will attempt to use Transferable Development Rights to create a technological version of the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve that prohibits the use of AI within the zone. It may or may not also include social media.

Once you see it, you can't unsee it: CLD should never have been run by NASA. It should have always been in Commerce. The same goes for commercial cargo and crew.
