➡️General David Petraeus - ex-CIA Director and the most celebrated American General of his generation in conversation with Rahul Kanwal, Shiv Aroor and me at the NDTV World Summit.
➡️His warnings are stark - drone warfare has changed the face of conflict.
➡️Almost every legacy system, every conventional thought process is obsolete.
➡️Mass deployed autonomous killing machines, properly programmed, are a certainty - they are already prototyped now - Within 5 years, they will be mass deployed.
➡️Drones are more efficient, less emotional than human soldiers.
➡️This is the biggest revolution in warfare since possibly the advent of gunpowder itself.

India’s Asian Games report card is a mixed one. And perhaps a little sobering.
🇮🇳 85 medals, down from 106
🥇 21 golds, down from 28
🏃 Athletics: 24 medals, but just 1 gold
🎯 Shooting: 15 medals, down from 22
🏸 Badminton: just 1 medal
One particularly encouraging story: women and men won 38 medals each, but women won 11 golds against 7 by the men.
India finished 4th in Asia. Respectable. But for a country hoping to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and the Olympics in 2036, the ambition has to be higher.
Hosting the world is one ambition. Competing consistently with the world’s best is another.
Some revealing numbers from the @NDTV Datafy team.

Bhagat Singh’s fellow comrade Shiv Verma recalled what Bhagat Singh told him during their final meeting. Bhagat Singh was martyred at the age of 23.
This video was recorded in 1986, when the then CPIM leader Shiv Verma was 81 years old.

Salil Chowdhury was a genius - the best of the best and yet the film industry never gave him the credit he deserved. His music was intricate, lively, and a masterclass in blending eastern and western harmonies.
I picked one of my all-time favorites from his 1965 film "Chand Aur Suraj".
It must have been a personal favorite of Salil da's too, considering how often he repurposed the melody into preludes and interludes elsewhere. Plus, a young, fresh faced Tanuja in this song is an absolute delight!

Many of us in India grew up disliking Javed Miandad, although grudgingly respecting him as a player. We saw him as petty, vindictive and provocative. A man who started fights and created controversies.
That changes for me now.
Bravely and movingly said, sir.

Offending a child’s sensibilities is possibly the worst trait of humans. This little child from Itanagar wants Indians to know that she too is one of us. India is diverse, we need to understand this

Mama,
I last saw you and Papa together more than 35 years ago. Since the day Papa left, I have watched you face everything life threw at you with never-ending courage and dignity. Only Priyanka and I really know what you have been through, and how difficult your life after Papa truly was.
I am happy, and so proud, that your story - “Belonging: A Journey of Love” - will finally be read by the millions of people who love you. I know how hard it was for someone as private as you to tell the world your beautiful story.
Today, on his birthday, I can see Papa smiling and looking down proudly at his beautiful Sonia.
Love,
Rahul
Happy Birthday Sir..Your contributions for the nation shall never be forgotten. We miss your presence everyday. You were and shall always remain the most loved prime minister for our generation. @INCIndia #RajivGandhi
And we are still debating who attacked us 1000 years back. @japan as a nation suffered its worst setback at the end of the second world war in 1945. The economy was in shambles, the currency devalued but they decided to pick the threads and move forward. Within 20 years they became one of the leading economies because they looked forward. Hope we learn from them. Respect for its people and leaders.

When I see Sonia Ji, I wonder how a woman who left one world for another, only to be met with such grief, has carried herself with this much composure.
She lost her husband in the most tragic way possible, and had her life, her background, and every intention and action picked apart - all while raising two young adults and carrying forward her husband's unfinished political legacy.
She stayed, never played the victim, and never let the cruelty or bitterness she experienced define her. She maintained a dignified silence.
She led the Congress to two resounding victories in 2004 and 2009. And raised two individuals who are not just intelligent, but kind, principled, humble and resilient.
She cannot be reduced to being "the Italian-Indian politician" and "the matriarch of the Gandhi family."
She is a strong woman with nerves of steel. And she deserves to be seen as a person.
Sonia Ji's memoir, ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’, releases on November 10, 2026. I hope it lets the world finally meet the human behind the labels.

Saudi Arabia just signed a NATO-style defense pact with Turkey and Pakistan. Are other Gulf countries turning away from a longtime reliance on America to underwrite their security? I asked Harvard's Tarek Masoud and @citrinowicz in part 2 of our conversation:

Irony just died again. The cleanest man in Indian politics did not need an SC certificate of his integrity. Instead it is those who sought to implicate him in these charges who ought to be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
