The NTP damage survey and analysis for the Barrhaven area of Ottawa has wrapped up and it was a complicated one: two tornadoes, with the 2nd crossing the path of the 1st. We still have some analysis to do so lengths/widths are preliminary. Details here: uwo.ca/ntp/blog/2023/tornado…
Note that the confirmed Mirabel, QC tornado is included with this blog post as well, and that it is Quebec's first documented tornado of the year. A rather quiet tornado season in that province so far. Let's hope it stays that way!

Road conditions continue to deteriorate across southern Ontario. Dozens and dozens of collisions, many closures, sudden whiteout conditions. Stay put if you can, travel not advised. Take care out there! #onstorm #onwx #TWNStormCentre

What is a Seiche? When the winds switch direction and intensify quickly water sloshes from one end of the lake to the other. Picture Lake Erie as a giant bath tub and look what's happening now both ends.

Can’t say this strongly enough - this afternoon and evening will be one of the worst driving situations I’ve ever seen for the 401 east of Toronto through Kingston. Anyone on the road should be prepared to be stranded by blizzard conditions. #ONStorm

Today, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory caught the Sun "smiling." Seen in ultraviolet light, these dark patches on the Sun are known as coronal holes and are regions where fast solar wind gushes out into space.

Neils Harbour in Cape Breton was also hit hard. Kathy Ingram Mackinnon tells me she took these pics. She says the ocean swept through the backdoor of a house and now foam is all over the lower level. Thankfully everyone is okay. @CTVNews

Cold/dry air aloft bringing extreme low level lapse rates. Throw in some daytime heating & lake breeze fronts you get bouancy. Resulting in some non-severe thunderstorms. Some small hail, heavy downpours, and CG lightning. #onwx

A preliminary map of the worst-affected area on May 21 is shown below (green pin EF1, yellow pin EF2). However, intermittent intense damage along a path ~5 km wide continues ENE at least as far as Plantagenet. Additional details on that damage will be forthcoming. #ONStorm 2/2
