Apparently people aren’t insulting Amodei for his insane judgment here—obviously saving babies is better than saving adults—but rather for the mere thoughtcrime of comparing the two. What common anti-EAs hate most fundamentally is acting on the basis of anything other than vibes.

Mathematics is the closest thing to magic that exists IRL. All our tech depends on math. We’re literally invoking formulas written in arcane symbols to fly across continents, communicate instantly with anyone in the world, predict the future, summon genies, fly to the moon, etc.
