interesting post from an OpenAI employee claiming that all large language models reach the same endpoint regardless of training strategy or clever tricks this is of course what the bitter lesson teaches us but useful to get an up to date confirmation that it still holds true

ADHD-ers usually have an interest-based nervous system. Meaning that a task needs either novelty, urgency, competition or interest for them to be motivated or focused. Learning this and adapting boring, everyday tasks to fit into one of these categories can be life-changing.

This might be awful advice if content creation is your job and pays your bills, but good advice if you’re part time or hobbyist: The audience doesn’t run your shit. And the ones that think they do, are creativity kryptonite. Your show. Your choice. Your ramifications. Run it.

I understand the desire to go “back to normal” but as much as we equate masks with a terrible, difficult time in our lives, hospitals should remain forever changed. You should never enter one without a mask, nor should the people providing you with care. – at Omaha, NE

this is what AI is for. if you work in tech, and you work in AI, this is what you're building. it's a tool to break labor, and it will always be used for things like this

No you didn’t. Novelists don’t want to write *less*, they want other tasks to be automated to they can write *more*

Hypothetically, suppose that someone’s futurist philosophy as a tech billionaire is nothing more than thinly veiled fascism, and their ultimate goal is to architect an autocratic Martian society in which they rule as a despotic god-emperor. What do you do? bit.ly/447SJ6u

Some Autists experience Hyperphantasia, the ability to imagine sights as vividly as sight. Some who experience Hyperphantasia indicate that they can overlay their imagination over their perception of site.

How can you say it's a complex issue? It's not. It's a blatantly unethical attempt to redirect revenue streams from small artists to big tech companies with a disregard for copyrights or ethics. As a company hiring artists, there is no week without receiving an offer from yet another AI art company offering us to replace our artists with their algorithm. Some have the audacity to train their model with our copyrighted materials to show us how 'well' their model can replicate our copyrighted art. When we decline their offer, the standard follow-up is that we should rethink our decision because our competitors will use their model and be able to create games like ours way faster than ours. AI companies are basically trying to extort us - "buy our service, or we will sell models trained on your art to competitors." This business model is so abstractly unethical that a year ago, we could only imagine it to happen in a dystopian novel - they take the copyrighted works of others without permission or compensation and try to force companies to use their models, threatening them with selling models trained on their copyrighted materials to competition. Copyrights must be respected; no one should be allowed to train their models on someone else's work without permission or compensation. There is no reason to treat copyrights any differently just because big tech companies discovered algorithms of mass copyright infringement. Algorithms trained on stolen art won't cure cancer or solve the climate crisis or any other issue, so the argument about stopping progress is also ridiculous. We implore you not to promote the narratives of AI companies. As an educational institution, your role should not be that of a big tech PR firm. If you wish to hold a debate, include artist advocates in the conversation, rather than an overwhelming majority of AI executives and just a couple of token artists, which only creates the illusion of a balanced discussion.

Having been a creature of the Internet for 28 years now, I fully expect to get trolled for this. But if it can help some folks, it’ll be worth it. So here goes… A few months back I went through a mental health crisis. This is some of the stuff I learned: youtu.be/JBvc7Ny4iUk
