Oh my goodness, I ❤️ this SO much! I must remember this the next time someone tells me I look “Well” or “Healthy”...this is a MUCH better way to look at it than where my stupid #ED brain goes usually! #goals #EDRecovery #eatingdisorder

Discharged from #eatingdisorder service yesterday after nearly 7 years! So many mixed emotions. Mostly feeling so grateful to have had such long term NHS support from wonderful people. It feels a little scary, but also, what I wasn’t expecting, is that I kinda feel free :)

Before you judge an addict, put your phone away in a cupboard. Now, every time you think about your phone, that’s what addiction is like.. #RecoveryPosse

This is not ok..😕
In my sister’s school children have been asked to bring in a snack that contains less than 100 calories to promote health & wellbeing. These kids are 8 years old! How is this ok?! @scotgovhealth #eatingdisorderawareness

The cultural push of mothers into the work force and the glorification of "working moms" made the role of parenting almost trivial. Parenting and upbringing has the greatest impact on who someone becomes. Supporting parents to understand attachment theory, coping skills, and emotional intelligence is the focus in a healthy society.

People saying “NHS staff knew the pay when they took the job, if they don’t like it they should leave” have no plan for what to do when that actually happens. Spoilers: it’s already started

For those who don't fully understand what is up with the NHS, here is a thread for you that might help. I'm a consultant physician working as a doctor in the NHS in Yorkshire and Wales for 32 years now. I have experienced the NHS at its best (2008) and its worst (2022).

Can’t even escape #CaloriesOnMenus at a @nationaltrust cafe 😡 I’m quite far into #anorexia #recovery but still found it hard being confronted with the calories in food including a bowl of soup and separate calories for the bread with it on a big board on the wall at #DyrhamPark

A number of people have recently said to me "you've lost weight, you're looking great!" Here's why that's misguided and unhelpful, albeit entirely well-meant : a short thread.

A group of people can all eat the exact same thing and metabolize it differently. This is human physiology.

This 👇🏻🤬
In a cafe today, my daughters friend (aged 11) chose a meal, then commented ‘oh no it has 500 cals in it’ I can’t have that’. Tell me again that having calories on menus is a good idea! It doesn’t tell anything about nutritional value, so don’t tell me it’s for health reasons.

Yay! - went to Bill’s the restaurant for dinner and they DID NOT HAVE #CALORIESONMENUS 🙂🥳 Just a QR code on the menu that you could scan for further nutritional info if you wanted. That’s the way to do it #restaurants

Absolutely love @megsy_recovery on Insta. So much great #EDrecovery content and strength. Great tips on coping with the new #CaloriesOnMenus law in the UK:
#CaloriesOnMenus isn’t good for anyone. Most adults want to enjoy a meal out without guilt. For someone with an #eatingdisorder it is hugely triggering. For people in recovery it is also triggering. Calories on kids menus is disgraceful & harmful 🤬 NO good can come of that

😢
We’re extremely disappointed that the government is making calories on menus mandatory in England from 6 April. We know it causes anxiety for people affected by eating disorders. We know it can increase fixations on restricting calories for anyone with anorexia or bulimia. 🧵
Sussex Eating Disorder Service is expanding and we are excited 😀. Come work with us - new psychology posts live now! Band 8a, 7 and AP roles see 🧵👇👇👇
