MOUSE is a solid companion piece to GHOSTLIGHT. Has moments of sheer delight and utter heartbreak. Compelling performances throughout but a predictable narrative cruises by without really pushing the emotion further than it could have. Liked, but wanted to feel more. #ChiFilmFest

THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK is wonderful. Blending old-school logic in a modernized world, it works like a timeless suit that never goes out of style. John Turturro is quietly superb and I could’ve watched him work his way through a cashless world for hours.

#Whalefall is survival-anxiety horror that never overstays its welcomed premise. The father-son relationship tethers a fine line between touching and wanting more. Great sound and VFX work too! Another strong showcase from Austin Abrams makes this one a winner! Really liked.

#Josephine is a real stunner! A haunting, challenging and emotionally devastating portrait of childhood trauma. Anchored by a remarkable young Mason Reeves and career-best works from Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan, this left a lasting impression I won’t soon forget. #CIFF

Full review of #TheSocialReckoning is up!

THE SOCIAL RECKONING is okay… but far from the “reckoning” it advertises. The screenplay has its moments — the Sorkin dialogue works in places & the investigative journalism aspect of the film is interesting enough. Unfortunately, Sorkin’s direction is the biggest weakness. A dull, paint-by-numbers approach that never finds another gear. A very middle-of-the-road film.

Check this out: Mike Ditka in a game against the Steelers in 1963. This is honestly one of the best plays by a tight end in NFL history that very few people have ever seen. RIP Iron Mike.
Mike Ditka was the poster child for a specific brand of Chicago toughness that defined the Bears, and the city throughout my childhood. We COULD because he DID. Da Coach wasn’t always kind, but was always fair. He was ours, and we are better for it. #mikeditka #chicagobears

#TheSocialReckoning will work for some! As a film about investigative journalism, it mostly works. As for anything more… that’s where you’ll run into issues.

#Digger is not the train-wreck I saw many claim it to be and maybe it’s not the Tom Cruise Oscar win I was hoping for, but that’s Awards season for you! You never know until you do!

#Digger is a fascinating experience. A satirical black comedy that operates as a warning. Iñárritu is successful at being provocative & challenging the audience in a variety of ways. I did feel a LOT during this thing. Unfortunately, the presentation of this film & how it tries to subvert ultimately hold it back. It feels like it keeps getting in its own way. For every moment/idea that was effective for me, it fell flat time and time again. The movie will lead to many conversations, for better or for worse, and that’s really the main thing it has going for it.

Tom Cruise doesn’t just deliver a scene-of-the-year contender in #Digger, he reminds us all how great he can be at character acting outside of the action-hero stereotype. I truly hope that Cruise remains open to challenging himself again even if the movie performs poorly
MovieArcher retweeted
#Digger is one daringly bold experience! A satire both equal parts brilliant and overwhelming. Tom Cruise returns to character acting in larger than life fashion, delivering a scene-of-the-year monologue in Iñárritu’s wildest swing yet. Mostly dug but, expected more.
