How good is Slow Horses?
I know there are a lot of people throwing nice words at it but - after finishing series 6 this week - I wanted to throw something into the praise pot.
There are so many amazing performances in there. Saskia Reeve’s is stand-out as Standish, Kristen Scott Thomas is immense and - I can only fit 6 pictures on this grid but there are so many to choose from. They all play characters who are brilliant at their jobs but terrible at life.
Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb is on another planet. He is desperate to look like he couldn’t care less but occasionally there is a believable flash of loyalty that makes an otherwise repulsive human genuinely compelling. His acting is so good you can smell him through the telly.
You care about all the failures because you want the Slough House rejects to find a bit of purpose and meaning. It is laugh-out-loud funny but the humour never gets in the way of the danger or the drama. A wince can be seconds away from a cackle.
It also has just the right level of complication. There is a lot going on but it doesn’t keep stopping to explain to the audience what is happening and, even though there is international spy stuff going on, there is a grubby earthiness that makes it feel relatable.
The insults are top-tier and, at the heart of it, it’s about people who have been written off realising that they still count. 9.9 out of 10.
I’m taking off 0.1 for all the swearing 😂
Bring on season 7 🎯
The Prime Minister on Gogglebox, the future king on a chat show and all 3 traitors get chosen by their potential victims as the most trustworthy people left in the game - did that all really happen?
Friday night telly!
I thought Prince William played a blinder.
I’ve been off this week so it’s been interesting to witness Winnie living her best life.
Last night she chased a squirrel around the garden for about 30 seconds, lay on the sofa while we watched Traitors and Slow Horses and then polished off a bag of popcorn.
She slept for 10 hours, got up, had a wee in the garden, ate a big breakfast and has now gone back to bed.
Legend ❤️
I’ve had to go full Miss Marple to try and solve a crime this week…
‘The Mysterious Case Of The Missing Golf Balls’ 🦅
President Trump has sacked his press secretary Katie Zacharia after less than a week in the job!
That is half a Scaramucci - who lasted 10 days.
I feel sorry for her. She had a shocker but she was thrown in at the deep end.
Someone told me last year that they edit Traitors in reverse order… so, they start with the final episode and then work back to the beginning.
With that in mind - based on airtime, narrative so far and the fact that it’s good to keep someone who is so sure but wide of the mark - my stab in the dark is that Michael, Romesh and Joanne are there at the end.
*I will delete this if I’m wrong* 😂
Lovely to see you big man
Lovely chatting to my old friend and Strictly legend @mrdanwalker on Channel 5 news all about my new tour - The Golden Age Of Swing 🎶✨

Nice catch up with Tony who is getting ready to clap everyone round on the Endcliffe @parkrunUK
He thinks he might be the only person who has both a British Citizens Award and the US equivalent.
Have a great weekend ❤️
It’s our @makenoise day today at @ClassicFM where we all dress up and raise loads of dosh for charity ❤️
Our theme was ‘musicals’ so I went for a bit of Grease! The T-Birds are still going strong - I think the wig needs a little love 😵💫
Someone sent this to me this morning

7 runs. 7 days. Millions raised for charity and every step of the way he’s carrying a friendship, a promise and hope for families facing MND.
Watching Super Kevin Sinfield go again and again this week has been amazing.
His friendship with Rob Burrow has moved so many of us and through these extraordinary challenges he reminds us about what it means to keep turning up.
