Mark Daigneault says Jared McCain's defense, rebounding, and driving ability are keeping him on the floor through his shooting slump. Mark Daigneault: “That's the trick with those guys that are great shooters is if their impact starts and ends with their shooting, then it's very difficult to play them through slumps because if they're not delivering on the shots, then there's no reason to have them out there... That's why having a well-rounded floor game and being able to play both ends of the floor is so important, and he's doing that right now and has done that for a while. He’s built a lot of trust in that way… He’s a constant threat to shoot despite the fact that he hasn’t made shots in the last couple of games. And then defensively, he’s feisty rebounding the ball. He can take more primary matchups than you probably imagined when we traded for him, just on effort and execution. And that's what buys you more minutes and more opportunities to let the shot come around.” (via @Justintohoops) McCain is 0-for-16 from three over his last 3 games, but has played 27+ minutes in all of them. In Monday’s 117-112 win against Cleveland, Jared went 0-for-5 from deep but still contributed with a season-high of 9 rebounds (8 DREB) with a +5.
