I’m thrilled to begin covering all things Texas Longhorns for the Austin American-Statesman. Big thank you to the @statesman crew for bringing me aboard.
Texas fans, please follow along and DM me to say hello! I'm here at DKR today, can’t wait to get started.
This could be Arch Manning’s last start in Austin. Who would be Manning’s replacement if he’s pulled vs. Ole Miss?
Meet KJ Lacey, Texas’ backup, the former Alabama Mr. Football, and the 6’0” quarterback they call “Baby Bryce.”

Kevin Durant says NBA fans claim he doesn’t have a career “home.”
His response?
“I feel like I hear NBA fans say I don’t have a home, but I feel like this is my home coming back here to Austin. So, you know, it’s always good to be in front of friends and family regardless of the outcome, but it feels even better getting a W.
Kevin Durant gets the win in Austin, then embraces Rich Kleiman, Matthew McConaughey and Shane Gillis postgame.
This is the Alperen Şengün Show at Moody Center right now. Completely unafraid to go at Victor Wembanyama.
This Austin crowd—which includes Matthew McConaughey, Chris Bosh, Mike D’Antoni and Rich Kleiman—is seeing a heck of a game tonight, btw.
Moody Center is packed. Loud, too.
Kevin Durant is wearing his KD 19 “Texas” sneakers again tonight in Austin.
KD wore the same kicks on Opening Night in Houston on Wednesday, dropped 30.
Not all good vibes for Kevin Durant in Austin tonight. Drew a foul, then got a playful arm out from De’Aaron Fox during a dead ball.
KD swatted Fox’s hand away, some jawing ensued as the two were separated.
Didn't know this: Kevin Durant said he moved to Austin the day after he graduated high school. Here's more from KD on how his year at Texas changed his life:
"The impact that this community had on my life has been felt. It's going to be felt for the rest of my life. This is like my foundation, you know? … I was here that whole year. No friends, no family, I had to meet everybody here. So I grew up learning a lot about myself, some legendary coaching with Coach [Rick] Barnes and his staff, and a great city I had no clue about until I got here, everything worked out perfect.”
More from KD today:
Durant says he “spent a couple of days” with @TexasMBB in early September. Had plenty of praise for Sean Miller.
“We watched practice, worked out there, had dinner with Sean. I love what he brings, he's a legendary coach who's left his imprint all around the country and the basketball community. I'm grateful he's here, he's one of those guys that cares about winning every day and enjoys the process, so I can't wait for him to have some success here.”

UT launched Bevo Labs today, an AI powered data analytics for the athletics department. And it's already been put to use.

Steve Sarkisian on Arch Manning, his current attitude, and the media machine:
“Somebody texted me today that we lost the 'aw shucks' kid, you know, and we've created something else. I don't know if we lost him, we created this, ya know?”
“We did. All of us. Y'all included, me included, the whole thing, right? Everybody on ESPN, we've created this, and so we'll see what comes out of it.
“He’s edgy right now. And I appreciate that about him. At some point he's gotta fight back. The best way to fight back is playing good football with his teammates and enjoying playing good football with his teammates. And so I'm looking forward to watching him compete Saturday."
