Writer & window-dresser extraordinaire 🪩
I spent this morning constructing my THE PHOENIX BALLROOM window in @eaglebookshop ready for my event there on Saturday. I think the flat-pack chandelier I put together was worth the effort! #thephoenixballroom #Bedford #chandelier @CorvusBooks @AtlanticBooks @mslisahighton

Lovely to see #thephoenixballroom topping Amazon's Most Wished For chart in Women's Popular Fiction. I've already had some fab reviews on Amazon but if you feel inclined to leave a review, I'd really appreciate it 😘 #fiction #reviews #bestsellercharts

‘Politicians shamelessly chase votes from the Crime Fiction community’ my cartoon for this week’s @GuardianBooks
ALT Title: Politicians shamelessly chase votes from the Crime Fiction community Image One: An old woman leans on her walking stick and looks down at a corpse in the vicarage garden. Caption: A generous pension increase for seemingly harmless little old ladies who solve two or more serious crimes per year. Images Two and Three: A boy in a cap and knickerbockers spies on some dubious characters and a girl in police uniform walks nervously down a dingy alley. Caption: All eighteen-year-olds must spend weekends meddling in local crime, ora year as an idealistic rookie on the mean streets of the big city. Image Four: An unkempt middle-aged man in a fedora sits at a messy desk, smoking and adding some bourbon to his coffee. Caption: An improved pay and benefits package for grizzled detectives who wearily take on last case before retirement.

Authors. This. Every single point 💯
10 years ago I was still stuck in the query trenches (lost & confused). Here’s a few things I’ve learned about writing/publishing in the past decade 🧵
1. Resilience. Rejection is part of the job. It gets easier. It’s not that your work isn’t good it’s that it isn’t a good fit.
