Good news: One lane of NC 12 set to open Friday at 12p with flaggers. Bad news: Two-way traffic not set to resume for weeks. Crews need time to install new sandbags on the dune side to prevent the road from being undermined by the overwash.

NC DOT crews are in process of clearing way for new pavement on Hwy 12. Sandbags and protective dunes will be on the ocean side. Initial goal will be to open one lane, then two. A longer term fix would have to be approved at a higher level. Until then, re-paving.
