As a Christian, I want to share a lament with you.
What we Christians get outraged about and what we don’t says a lot about our Christian reputation in the world.
This last week was a prime example.🧵

Tonight’s election outcomes in Franklin, TN, where voters rejected a radical mayoral candidate & similarly minded alderman candidates, is the latest example that municipal elections serve as the front line of defense for our very fragile political system & electoral processes. 1/

I always remember that time a 2018 event I co-moderated with @tamburintweets featuring @BillHaslam was interrupted by protesters toward the end. The former governor told me then: "Democracy is messy." I haven't forgotten that. But the TN special legislative session this week is seeming like a form of sanitized democracy, at least in the state House, which is drowning out the voices of people who are wanting to be heard and affirmed by their representatives. What's being practiced is not ordinary or normal civility, but "sadistic" civility.

Today is #TNFlagDay, celebrating the date that the #TennesseeGeneralAssembly adopted the flag in 1905! You may not know that the three white stars represent the three grand divisions of the state - West, Middle, & East - bound together by a circle of blue to signify their unity.
