I'm starting a fintech and payments podcast. The goal is interesting discussions rather than high production quality. Remote recording (self produced). Looking to talk with those building interesting stuff and get across product, tech, business, and strategy. Please no PR pitches but open to any recommendations or direct outreach.

This week on Payments Culture I spoke with Patrick Mollard, CEO and co-founder of Fipto. Fipto is a Paris-based stablecoin infrastructure company that is working with clients such as TerraPay, Worldline, Ledger, to name just a few. In our discussion we covered: - The experience of Patrick, and fellow co-founders Gregoire Andrieu-Guitrancourt and Bertrand Godin, working together at iBanFirst before founding Fipto in 2022 - While Swift and other legacy payment systems still do the job for many payments today stablecoins can provide a clear upgrade where 24/7 settlement is required - How the retreat of correspondent banks, especially in regions like LATAM, have opened up space for stablecoins to step in (seen in Fipto's partnership with Avenia in Brazil) - Via Spiko customers of Fipto can now get access to low risk investments directly through the platform without off-ramping to a fiat bank account - How the EU's MiCA regulation provided regulatory certainty for partnerships in the region and why euro stablecoin initiatives such as Qivalis are being keenly watched paymentsculture.com/p/can-st…

This is really sad Rest of World is one of the most unique publications Why have they never tried a paywall? I would pay $10 a month to keep it going and I’m sure many others would too
News: Rest of World, the nonprofit newsroom focused on the impact of technology outside the West founded by Sophie Schmidt, tells donors in an email it will ā€œcease publishing as a standalone entityā€ at the end of January.

China consumed more coal in the last four years (2022–2025) than the entire world consumed throughout the 19th century.

I was watching Sky News with my wife earlier. Pete Hegseth was talking. My wife said "is that the real estate guy?" 🄹

Stripe’s Link wallet is fast becoming the de facto payment option for many personal agent experiences — and interestingly they offer a degree of purchase protection. (US only for now.) The terms of the Purchase Protection were recently updated and essentially works like a purchase insurance rather than as a payment scheme chargeback. Cover is provided by New Hampshire Insurance Company and Cover Genius with Stripe providing the service as ā€œa convenience and benefitā€, in other words it’s not a legal, or scheme obligation, and could be withdrawn in the future. Any claims are administered by Cover Genius and not Stripe. This is a different model to what most people are used to with purchase protection, in which queries usually go via a card issuer. As agentic commerce grows in importance will we see third party insurance models grow in popularity? It makes sense given many of the rules around liability are not always 100% clear, and traditional routes such as chargebacks are still adapting. Also noting again that this is US only for now. The US market has much higher interchange than the UK and EU, therefore some of the transaction revenue could essentially be used to pay for an insurance model of protection — this will be much harder in the UK and EU. onelink.com/gb/protections

Everything is competing for the same set amount of eyeball time every day šŸ‘€

So let’s get this right: the most elite British troops, SAS commandos operating against terrorists, can be placed under criminal investigation for missions undertaken at the behest of their government and for the safety of their country; but actual, known ISIS terrorists can’t be deported from the UK because of their ā€˜human rights’? We are literally prosecuting our most elite commandos while protecting known terrorists. It’s terrorists’ rights over British citizens’ rights. For shame.
EXCLUSIVE: The commanding officer of the SAS was placed under criminal investigation and referred to prosecutors over anti-ISIS mission in Syria. Unprecedented move concerned police request for classified evidence, but effort to charge him collapsed thetimes.com/uk/defence/arti…

This is what rent control does. When it’s illegal to ration by price, you start rationing by any other means you can.
A friend of mine had to do a 15 minute interview about his job, income, previous rental history, etc, in order to *view* a flat. Luckily for him, he has a well-paid job, has lived in England all his life, and an impeccable rental history. I feel bad for people who don't.

Why did Claude Code move scheduled tasks into a space where they are invisible to me unless I navigate with a few extra clicks and menus?

What I like about Instinct is it’s both a company name and a product name Duet Dots Names, which are products of a wider portfolio of big AI labs don’t hit the mark in the same way Muse is better… It’s easy to say ā€œMy Museā€ and they created a character distinctive enough than you can forget it’s Meta

The reality is Netflix just isn’t very good The algorithm means Netflix tries to push the same stuff and relies on the same formats for years at a time It had innovative shows some years back but these days I often find nothing worth watching Go back five years and Netflix seemed h stoppable — bug vibe shift
People are losing the attention span to even watch 30 minute TV shows as short form video eats the world.
