i hope you see the beauty of the connectedness the internet gives us and donβt just bathe in its slop
I claimed the "macabe" handle on @ThePirateFace π΄ββ οΈ

Smoked Chicken and Sausage Gumbo from scratch!
Smoked the chicken, made homemade stock, and took that roux nice and dark.
This video is 15 minutes long, so grab a cold drink, get comfortable, and hang out a while. π
Good gumbo takes time. Apparently so does explaining how to make it!

interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had
with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works

John Urschel btw
John Urschel just showed that the growth factor for Gaussian elimination with partial pivoting is ~n^{1/2} with high probability, resolving a long-standing conjecture of Nick Trefethen! arxiv.org/abs/2610.06785

too much writing, too much thinking, too much planning, too much analysis. your pencils are sharp enough. theres not much time left now, its best if you get going.
purely an observation
the democratic party will not shake the virtue signaling and cosplaying that has been core to its identity in time for midterms. the republican party has had/is having its schism since 2016 and is ahead in an evolutionary sense. talking points, outreach, and political figures have taken new forms.
the lack of adaptiveness in talking points, outreach, and figureheads is how democrats lose midterms. eas are trying to capture this distressed asset which is interesting to watch. but nonetheless itβs a full blown identity crisis in the middle of campaign season. polls show otherwise but most of those numbers are dissatisfaction w/ trumpβs economy, iran, and high costs. not necessarily showing support for the democratic party the voter is familiar w/.
America.gov is something the democratic party would have done in 2012

I consider Dryden a friend, but:
No idea could ever come close to being as monumental as Christβs birth, crucifixion, and resurrection. His humanity and divinity. Our salvation through Him.
This is The Idea.
Todayβs pompous, futurist AI-cultists will, just like the last two millennia of Sadducees and pagans and renaissance men and ideologues, will claim that Christ is a particularly insightful instantiation of βThe Goodβ or some such abstraction. However, they claim, it is βobviouslyβ an anachronism for this or that reason.
Christianity is not part of the past, nor is it the defining characteristic of the future. He exists throughout eternity, outside of time, long before and after and beyond the tribulation of artificial intelligence.
