Thank you to everyone who bought the current issue and indeed throughout the season, our 27th year.
We might be back in 2027, but that depends on you.

Abuse is not defined by physical harm alone. Control, gaslighting, and constant criticism leave wounds too—just not the kind you can see.

The hardest part isn’t what they said—it’s what you started believing. Undoing that damage takes time.

Abusers mix cruelty with kindness, keeping you off-balance and hopeful. That’s not love—it’s manipulation.

What amazing empathy and humanity shown by Rachel here, didn’t want to poke just wanted to hear him and hug him. Fair play to Mark for talking honestly and openly Hopefully Mark is getting help at this hard time for him.
A touch of class here from Stan Collymore
Hi Erin
If he needs a network of former pros to talk to then they're all there for him.
@bignorms @ChrisKirkland43 @Paul_Lake are 3 men who I'd advise James to have a coffee with. And he's always welcome to to contact me, I'll even come to Derry's walls 🇮🇪

Sometimes the hardest part of abuse is realizing that what you’re experiencing is actually abuse. Emotional and psychological abuse can hide behind love, kindness, concern, and everyday behavior until you slowly stop trusting yourself. Naming the pattern can be the first step toward clarity and taking your experience seriously.

James McClean has genuinely said he thinks therapy is a sign of weakness in men
Simply, that is a disgusting, disgraceful thing to say
Asking for help is the strongest thing a man can do, shame on McClean for thinking otherwise…

Abuse doesn’t happen because the victim is weak. It happens because abusers are strategic, manipulative, and skilled at exploiting trust.

Abusers are antagonistic, always on the attack, and always looking for something to blame you for.
So you find yourself constantly explaining, defending, or justifying things that should never need explaining. Like, why you took too long at the shop. Why your friend messaged you. Why you were quiet. Why you were smiling.
Abusers twist the normal into the suspicious and the harmless into the dangerous.
So you start pre-editing your life, cutting out anything that might cause trouble. Until eventually, you just stop doing things altogether.
If you’ve found yourself retreating from life to avoid conflict, that doesn’t make you weak, passive, or avoidant. You were adapting to survive, and that is strength, even if it never felt like it.
