Dr. B. Vijayalakshmi, Tamil particle physicist taken away too soon; ias.ac.in/public/Resources/I…
lot of fake swamijis but the ones with pseudo scientific ones exploiting human suffering have my wrath

Built Makkal Saatchi ( makkal-saatchi.com ) without any funding or revenue expectations.
Today, people across Tamil Nadu use it to report bribes & corruption, and some complaints have led to action by authorities.
No revenue, but real-world impact. That’s what matters to @makkal_saatchi .
an ordinary calculator can become a counter for the physical world
it already has a display, arithmetic logic, and a running total
add an infrared sensor, and changes in reflected light can become counting pulses
the trick is the "=" key: on compatible calculators, repeated presses keep adding 1. let the sensor trigger those presses, and the calculator does the counting
the same principle can count passing objects, shaft rotations, or winding turns
that’s a useful starting point for sensor projects:
1 decide what physical change matters
2 turn it into a clear event
3make the device respond
my ESP32 sensor guide below covers choosing sensors, filtering noisy readings, and building that loop yourself ↓

Frontier labs making custom chips is not really as hard / as impressive as you might think.
1. They are primarily targeting inference not training. inference is easier
2. They are targeting transformers only. Think large MXU matmul units
3. They are writing all kernels in close to ISA with coding agents RLed for their ISA.
4. They aren’t making high level compilers for codegen
A frontier lab vending a true generic chip like a Nvidia GPU or Google TPU is MUCH harder than spinning up an in house inference program.
Still I think you will see many more inference chip companies as the cost of the software is just the cost of tokens.

If you want to see parts of Iran that even most Iranians don’t get to see in their lifetimes, you should follow Maria. Criminally under-followed. She should have ten times as many followers.

There is an American tech YouTuber called Jerry Rigs Everything. Most of his videos are about him taking apart devices, understanding how they work etc.
He has 10.2 million subscribers
In 2005 his wife had a horse riding accident as a result of which she was paralyzed waist down. She now required a wheel chair to move about
All high quality outdoor wheelchairs that he tested costed upwards of $20,000
Considering he was a tech Youtuber with some fame he could have simply called one company to get one for free.
He didn't do that
Like he does on his channel, he took apart a wheelchair, understood its components and then built one on his own
He then decided to sell them in public for $999. He called it the Paradox
Thanks to him, most of us can have access to high mobility, all terrain wheelchairs.
This is what tech Youtubers abroad do. They actually make a difference
Meanwhile Our guys haven't yet gone past, "Arre Bhai, Yeh dekho Apple ka agla amazing phone, Isme aapko milta hai 3 camera aur ek screen. See how I am drooling on this packaging and colour" with some pathetically click baity thumbnails

Geoffrey Hinton once noticed that the tellers at his bank kept changing. When he asked one of them why, the teller didn't know, only that they got moved around a lot.
Hinton guessed the reason... if staff never work with the same people for long, it's much harder for a few of them to team up and cheat the bank.
That thought became one of the most useful tricks in deep learning. While a neural network trains, you randomly switch off about half its neurons at every step. No neuron can lean on a particular partner, so each one has to learn something useful on its own. The trick is called dropout, and it helped AlexNet win the 2012 ImageNet contest, which set off the modern AI boom. It's still built into many of today's networks.
If there is no 🥕 at end of the stick, its just a stick 🇺🇸

What makes Ashoke Sen such a rockstar is not just his brilliant mind - but also the fact that he does not take the easy way out.
🚨 Could have stayed in America and taken US citizenship - chose to do cutting edge research in India
🚨 Could have lived an easy life with earlier $3 million prize - chose to give away a large part of it
🚨 Could have stayed quiet & blind on sensitive issues - chose to speak up on beef related lynchings.

🚨 Here's to Ashoke Sen for becoming the first Indian to win the prestigious Oskar Klein medal, one of the highest honours in theoretical physics. We need more national heros like him.
