Incredible to see this display at the Austin record store End of an Ear. !! I’ll be hanging out at the store signing records at 4pm on Oct 11. Then I’ll play Monks in Austin on Oct 13. Come say hey!

1/6 As I have written before, I grew up in a house in which jazz was always playing; I was very lucky. My first favorites, at age 9, were the MJQ, Duke, Sonny Stitt and, I remember, really liking a Paul Horn album...

Eight days before 'Nevermind' — 35 years ago today — @Nirvana played an intimate show at Seattle's Beehive Records. @nabilayers was there, reveling in the music, getting his records signed. Today he looks back on Nirvana's last night as a regular band: stereogum.com/2511376/nirvan…

Honoring Alice Coltrane on her birthday. I had the privilege of seeing her 4 times. The first two with Trane, both at the Village Theater on 2nd ave, which was later the Fillmore East. Then at the Carnegie Hall concert some months after Trane died with Pharoah and Joe Henderson..

…And best of all, at the East Village In a tiny club that was on 1st ave and 9th St. Frank Lowe played tenor and it was amazing hearing the music in such an intimate setting. A day to honor, possibly, the closest we’ve had as a saint in jazz. Along with her husband, of course.

Happy birthday to one of the great bassists of all time, Cecil McBee. The first time I heard Cecil was on Grachan Moncur's great Blue Note album, Some Other Stuff. I was only 14 but could immediately hear that Cecil sounded quite different from what I'd heard other bassists do…

3/3 I look at this as the final piece of a trilogy, my melodic albums. Perhaps I’ll change up a bit next time. But I love melody, and I think I’ve found some nice ones here. A melodic free jazz album, interesting concept. Hoping some of you will give a listen!

2/3 A big thanks to my producer on my last 3 albums and this one, Nabil Ayers. You do a great job sensing which direction to go and keeping me focused. And to Michael Brennan for such a beautiful cover design, and Aaron Nevezie and Bunker Studio for the great engineering and mix.

1/3 At long last, the release day for my new album, Anthem For Peace. Thank you to Luke Stewart, Patricia Brennan and Chad Taylor, what a rhythm section! Not much had to be said: a 3 hour rehearsal and a 6 hour recording session the next day, and done. lnk.to/AlanBraufman
