How could the humble bean improve #GlobalHealth & #FoodSecurity? @nadradz explores how hundreds of forgotten and sidelined bean species could change the game - including one plant that produces its own beans & chips #WorldPulsesDay @FAO Read her article slcu.cam.ac.uk/news/how-forg…
Wrote this article for yesterday’s #WorldPulsesDay to increase awareness on forgotten legumes and why they are important for our food security. Many thanks to @KathyGrube and Imogen (from The Conversation) for their help and support in writing this piece!

We call this ciku in Malay (pronounced as chi-koo). My sister loves this fruit! There is also the Manilkara kauki which is native to Southeast Asia. We call it as ciku merah (red ciku) or ciku sawo (tan ciku)

A very nice work on linking ABA sensitivity to a splicing factor in early seed development. I’ve seen how @RuiMart24312878 worked really hard on this project. Do check it out!
Really proud of @RuiMart24312878. He put a lot of work into this and it's turned a really great paper. Congrats to the rest of the team as well! Great job folks.

It is like dismantling a wall for others to see the science. The wall can be any form of prejudice/ bias/ stereotype. Unfortunately, instead of presenting the science, we first need to break down the wall (extra work) that wasn’t placed by us so that our work can be seen
Replying to @facette_lab
While the rest of us are very busy (overwhelmed!) doing our science, teaching & service, Black scientists are at the same time doing all we do PLUS bearing the load of overt and subversive racism. They’re expected to do all we do, plus more. (4/n)

Just found out that the name Cajanus cajan came from the latinicised Malay word “kacang” (pronounced as ka-chang). Kacang is just a generic name for all types of beans and peas. Soybean is kacang soya, long bean is kacang panjang, etc. So Cajanus cajan just means “bean bean”
