I wrote a thing! 🥳
* every nth layer of abstraction = more utility @ lower cost for new set of users
* the latest layers are highly composable (API-first SaaS, crypto protocols, micro-fulfillment)
* so how do these components bridge old to new? connect physical with digital?

Beam has been acquired by @ModernTreasury
When I left Visa to start Beam, I began with the simple belief that money shouldn’t take days to move in a world where data moves in milliseconds. To me, stablecoins and real-time payment systems weren’t competing ideologies. They were complementary tools waiting to be stitched together.
Over the past several months, I’ve gotten to know @mattgmarcus, @dadiomov, Sam and the Modern Treasury team. From our very first conversation, it was clear that we have similar visions for the future of money movement. Money should move at the speed of the internet, with currencies, rails, pre-funding, and everything in between, completely abstracted to the end-user.
I’m incredibly excited to continue building on the foundation we’ve laid at Beam, now with the firepower of the MT team beside us. With more resources in our arsenal, we can accelerate a future where stablecoins and tokenization play a generationally transformative role and instant payment systems proliferate globally.
In the near term, Beam will continue operating as-is, focused on what we do best: connecting stablecoins to RTP systems and orchestrating settlement across rails in real time. Soon enough, you’ll start seeing that infrastructure embedded directly into Modern Treasury, with some tremendous new products coming that will simplify money movement like never before.
To the Beam team - past and present - thank you. To our customers and investors, your belief carried us further than most people will ever understand.
More to come
Beam has been acquired by @ModernTreasury!
When we started Beam, we set out to combine the speed and programmability of stablecoins with the familiarity and of traditional bank infrastructure. We believed, and still believe, that the future of payments is about making the best of instant fiat rails and stablecoin rails interoperable so people never have to think twice about how money moves.
Modern Treasury shares that same conviction. For years, they’ve been building the operating layer for money movement. Their system abstracts away bank processes, normalizes payment types, and gives companies real-time control over their treasury. They’ve powered hundreds of billions in payments across ACH, wires, RTP, and beyond. Together, we saw an even bigger opportunity: build the first unified global operating system that spans both traditional and stablecoin settlement rails.
With stablecoins crossing into regulatory clarity and financial institutions modernizing faster than ever, the market is demanding a platform that can speak both languages from day one. Banks want to future-proof their platforms. Fortune 500 companies want more flexible treasury operations. Global teams want to operate across currencies, regions, and payment systems through one API. Demand is rising from every direction as individuals and businesses move toward a world where money behaves like software.
By joining forces, we’re accelerating that vision. Beam’s stablecoin & fiat orchestration infrastructure capabilities will be woven directly into Modern Treasury’s platform to unlock instant payins & payouts, FX efficiency, and next generation liquidity management, all within a trusted enterprise-grade system.
Whether a company is moving money via ACH,RTP, USDC,or their own stablecoin , the experience will be identical: fast, compliant, automated, and invisible.
As part of Modern Treasury, Beam will continue to operate as its own platform and product line in the near term before fully integrating with Modern Treasury. Customers can expect full continuity of service with even more capabilities coming online as our systems begin to merge.
To our customers and partners: thank you for betting on us early. You pushed us hard, trusted us with your customer’s money, and helped us prove that stablecoin-based payment infrastructure will drive the next era of money movement.
We can’t wait to share more updates as we build a single financial fabric where rails, currencies, and counterparties operate as one.

Today, I’m excited to announce our new product: Merge Agent Handler!
With the growth of AI, we've seen demand for both synced connectors to power enterprise search and deterministic use cases, and live connectors that let agents take real-time actions. And now, with @merge_api, you can have both.
Merge Agent Handler securely connects your AI agents to thousands of pre-built tools via MCP.
The platform also comes with authentication, credential management, monitoring, logging, and enterprise-grade security.
Huge shout out to the team who worked tirelessly to bring this to life.

the state of stablecoins: integration or isolation?
stablecoin payments hit $6.4 trillion in the last 12 months, with $2.2 trillion of that in just the last three. adoption isn’t slowing down. the bigger question is how they’ll fit into the broader financial system.
will they replace banks and traditional rails entirely? or will they integrate and make existing payment infrastructure more efficient? I think you know how we at @beam_cash feel…
right now, real use cases are proving that stablecoins aren’t just for crypto trading:
- Félix (@felixpago) enables instant, low-cost remittances between U.S. migrants and LATAM
- Buenbit (@buenbit) provides LATAM users access to USD savings to protect capital against inflation and U.S. investments to grow capital
- SpaceX (@spacex) uses stablecoins for treasury management and cross-border payments
- Deel (@deel) facilitates international payroll with stablecoins where banking is slow or unreliable
- Robinhood (@robinhoodapp) relies on stablecoins to settle transactions on weekends when banks are closed
some argue that stablecoins should bypass banks and rails entirely. in theory, it’s a bold vision. in practice, it creates more problems than it solves.
a parallel financial system faces a mountain of inertia:
- liquidity fragmentation: stablecoins alone can’t replace $150+ trillion in global payments. businesses and consumers rely on existing rails for salaries, invoices, and commerce. isolating stablecoins would create friction, not efficiency.
- on/off-ramp limitations: a logistics company in brazil still needs to pay local suppliers in BRL. a freelancer in argentina receiving usdc still needs to pay rent in ARS. no matter how much settlement improves, fiat off-ramps will be necessary for a VERY long time.
- regulatory risk: a fully separate system invites heavier scrutiny, as regulators (and incumbents with large balance sheets) will see it as a direct competitor rather than an evolution of existing frameworks.
- network effects: VISA, TCH/NACHA have decades of established relationships, clearing systems, and compliance mechanisms. stablecoins should be plug-and-play to build on these networks rather than rebuild them from scratch.
instead of forcing a separate system, stablecoins must move freely between blockchains and payment rails to unlock speed, cost efficiency, and programmability without cutting off access to the traditional economy.
when stablecoins are interoperable, the entire financial system shifts:
- businesses gain instant global settlements with less fees and delays
- treasuries automate liquidity management & yield optimization in real time
- financial institutions embed stablecoins into core infrastructure
in other words, interoperability gives everyone the benefits of stablecoins.
this thesis drives @beam_cash. making stablecoin settlements as seamless as any other payment method is non-negotiable.
whether b2c or b2b, cross-border or domestic, fiat or crypto, our bet is simple:
stablecoins + blockchains + the “best” legacy rails = mass adoption

.@beam_cash = unique EVM or SVM address linked to your business checking account. automatically off-ramps to your account when it receives $$$ onchain
What's the easiest way to accept $USDC that automatically settles to fiat in a business bank account?
I want to take crypto payments but it seems operationally very intensive right now:
- set up Coinbase account
- accept USDC
- transfer out
Reconciliation is a nightmare because each payment on normal rails is attached to an invoice.
It's very easy to do in e.g. Mercury because the payer is ID'd on the inbound transaction which makes it simple for finance + accounting to reconcile.
If I go through Coinbase the CEX account essentially becomes a mixer: we lose provenance and then have to manually track and tag who the payer is.
All of this costs time which = money.
Yes settlement is faster and cheaper than wire, but having to operationalize transactions carries significant ongoing operational overhead plus setting up systems + SOPs to start (probably takes hours).
Plus the incremental revenue generation is basically nil because everyone has fiat and very few people want to send USDC.
In an ideal world:
- payers are self-ID'd using something like ENS (so we don't have to manually update a whitelist)
- transactions are accepted on-chain and then off-ramped to banking with the transaction data (payer ID, amount, settlement time), plus the data is enriched with invoice numbers and any other identifying info

The opportunities for LLM-related startups seem unlimited, but I keep hearing the same q- what are good new startup ideas? And which ideas are flash-in-the-pan, made irrelevant by a foundation model, an architecture shift, or an onslaught of other new startups? Blog link in bio!

Don't underestimate the power of stating the wrong thing as a means to get to the right thing faster. Unfortunately most people are too afraid to sound dumb to do this.

if one of the greatest competitive advantage of startups (and bold turnarounds in big companies) is simply sticking together long to figure it out…
then “jumpiness” is a red flag 🚩
DON’T BE JUMPY
Got this message from a CEO about a candidate: “I don't think they'd be a good fit. We have a pretty hard rule on no jumpy folks and their background looks like a alot of 1.5 years and then gone”.
Current and future job seekers: don’t be jumpy. Accomplish something meaningful at each company before considering a new role. Making an impact (and ideally showing increased scope over time at the company) takes 3-5 years, not 1-2 years. Jumpiness at multiple companies is viewed negatively by recruiters and founders alike. It shows an inability to stick around and see things through.
