Today, I launched my election posters across Tshwane with a simple ask: give ActionSA 5 more years to keep fixing our Capital. Five more years to get the basics right. To deliver reliable services. To build safe, clean communities. To grow our economy and create opportunity. We’ve made progress. There is much more to do. Give us 5 more years to build a Capital City we can all be proud of. 💚🇿🇦 @Action4SA – at Pretoria, South Africa

Update on water restrictions affecting Garsfontein and Klapperkop systems. These two reservoirs remain critically low as high water consumption continues to slow down recovery and resulting in limited supply to some areas. We appeal to residents to use water sparingly to enable the full recovery of the reservoirs and ensure adequate supply to all areas. @CityTshwane
Replying to @nasiphim
@nasiphim We have had literally only 2 days of water in the last 7 days. Due to a huge pipe burst at Garsfontein Reservoir. All of Moreletapark feeds from Garsfontein and Elarduspark Reservoir. We do not receive feedback from our DA counselors and they blame you. Please help!

Today, I spent some time in Region 7 - in areas that have been impacted by the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant crisis. We are determined to ensure that all households in the area have access to water through water tankers, Jojo tanks and boreholes. This is a temporary measure as refurbishments continue at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant. Work at the plant is progressing smoothly as Rand Water continues with upgrades that will ensure that residents can receive clean water through the taps. We continue to appeal to residents that may still feel unwell to visit health facilities. Water that was previously stored from municipal taps must be discarded. @CityTshwane

This afternoon, we joined our Emergency Services team and local councillors at the Baghdad Informal Settlement, in Salvokop, following a fire that destroyed more than a 100 shacks. One person has died. The fire was extinguished in the early hours of Saturday morning. Tshwane’s Department of Social Development has been on site to provide relief to the affected families. Our Emergency Services Department has brought in supplies- mattresses, food and blankets. Our Department of Human Settlements is coordinating the support required to provide immediate relief to the affected families. @CityTshwane

This afternoon, I joined our Water and Sanitation Business Unit in Rethabiseng, Region 7, where they’ve been cleaning communal Jojo Tanks that will be used by the City to provide water to residents. This is our solution to providing alternative avenues to deliver water to communities in Rethabiseng, Bronkhorstspruit and surrounding areas. This remains a temporary solution while refurbishments continue at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant.@CityTshwane

#WaterSupplyUpdate: Cornwall Hill The City of Tshwane is aware that Cornwall Hill is also affected by the current water restrictions. Water tankers have been dispatched to the area to assist residents with access to water.
#SaveWater Water levels in Klapperkop and Garsfontein systems are critically low due to high consumption. Continued high consumption will place further strain on the reservoirs and delay recovery.

This afternoon, I met with religious leaders in Rethabiseng, Region 7. The purpose of the engagement was to provide feedback and an update to religious leaders and the wider community of Rethabiseng about the progress we’ve made at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant and the provision of water to residents through water tankers, Jojo Tanks and boreholes. We are committed to providing water to all households. @CityTshwane

Today, I visited the site of the water contamination affecting Findlay Reservoir, which supplies parts of the Pretoria CBD. A damaged sewer pipe in Groenkloof allowed sewage to seep into the underground water system feeding the Fountains springs, resulting in contamination of the water supply. Our teams are working to repair the damaged infrastructure and address the source of the contamination. Importantly, we have already isolated the affected water source and diverted supply to Salvokop Reservoir, allowing us to supply water from a clean source while repairs continue. However, some contaminated water may still remain in the distribution network. Until the system has been fully flushed and testing confirms that the water is safe, residents must continue boiling tap water before use. Our priority is to complete the flushing and restore safe drinking water to affected communities as quickly as possible. @CityTshwane
City of Tshwane activates alternative water supply for Pretoria CBD following a sewer pipe burst: The incident resulted in microbiological non- compliance affecting water supplied from Findlay Reservoir. The City acted quickly and emptied the Findlay Reservoir and switched the Pretoria CBD and surrounding areas to an alternative supply from the Salvokop Reservoir. This incident is separate from and unrelated to the ongoing water crisis in Bronkhorstspruit. @CityTshwane
