We KNOW what comes next. We KNOW what came before Drag was illegal in parts of Australia until the 2000s. Homosexuality was illegal in parts until the 1990s. Most of us were alive then, like come on we need to defend that shit so we don't end up back behind bars for existing

But also, not enough of you are up in arms over the books either Why are so many queers sitting back & watching our rights to be participating members of our communities get increasingly degraded? Or covering your eyes like it won't happen to you?

It's great everyone is up in arms over banning same-sex parenting books, but why wasn't banning drag storytime the line for so many of you? Drag performers are the backbone of the queer community, & on the frontlines advocating for our rights. We also cop the most abuse/threats

I can't help but notice how often people seem to describe those who are either autistic &/or traumatized as "unlikeable."

I think a certain transphobic author has forgotten how the concept of April Fool's Day works. Hatred isn't a prank.

I've been taking a break from SM - my anxiety's been terrible lately. But I had to come back to post this and just say: what the actual fuck, La Trobe? A research study with 'sensory-modified chicken nuggets'? To improve our 'gut microbiome'?

#AskingAutistic people who've applied for or got an internship/work with the #RiseProgram - was it a good experience? Was it worthwhile?

*Cries, because I hate being seen lately, but 'Inform' as an AuDHD person has been a (mostly) vicious cycle for me.*
Ok so we've all heard of the Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn trauma responses, but on behalf of Autistic people I would like to gently suggest a fifth: Inform.

Lol I have engaged in actual witchcraft. And I would do it again, if the by-product was pissing off a few specific Christians.
Just got a flyer in the mail, which β€˜ABC of sins to avoid’ are you?

This makes me angry. It's a waste of potential based on someone's perceived idea of how someone needs to behave socially to achieve. But ABC, in conjunction with Aspect and Macquarie University, is happy to exploit autistic writers for an unpaid documentary.

I wonder if the tv channel that gave the world β€˜love on the spectrum’ and refused to listen to the autistic community’s criticisms of it is making a doco about autists who want to be journalists because they care or because they want gross inspiration porn?
Love that the ABC has put out a call for autistic writers who want to try journalism Fucking despise that it’s so they can make a documentary about training them Disabled people are more than just props for your entertainment. Just teach them the job cause they want to do it.

So to clarify if you are not autistic and want to learn journalism at the ABC, you get paid if you are you dont get paid but you do get the 'opportunity' to have the abc make a documentary to exploit your unpaid time for content

I studied writing; but I don't want to 'try journalism'. Especially from a media company that doesn't know how to properly use the word 'neurodiverse' in a sentence (let alone 'neurodivergent' or IFL for disabled people). It just smacks of 'condescension' to me.

Why did I just figure it would come with a documentary? πŸ™„ I'll dig out my pink recorder if someone gets out their plinky-plonky piano - ABC will need a soundtrack! teapawt.net/thebigjohnnyd/status/1…
Replying to @thebigjohnnyd
What message does it send that the abc is finally being like β€˜we have an inclusive training program’ when the program is just so they can make a documentary instead of it being focused on training up voices we rarely hear in Aussie media?

I don't like to see people upset - I like to think I can extend empathy where it's needed, because I hate to think that someone needed support and I didn't give it to them. Why then, especially as an autistic person, do I find myself mostly on my own when I'm upset?

If anything, if I don't immediately reassure and confirm that my change in behaviour is just a sudden blip and 'nothing of concern', I get told: 1) You're too sensitive 2) You're too dramatic 3) You're making it hard for me 4) You need to build resilience

Why is it always one way and not the other? I'm exhausted.
