The day is finally here. My amazing wife Aviva Guttmann's new book "Operation Wrath of God," detailing European complicity with Israeli assassination campaigns in the 1970s, is out. Buy it, you won't regret it!
It is here! It is publication day of my new book about ‘Operation Wrath of God’ - My research reveals for the first time how Western intelligence agencies helped Mossad to hunt and kill Palestinians suspected of involvement in terrorist activities in Europe @cambUP_History

Talarico and Hinojosa both ran extremely populist campaigns in Texas and blew all expectations in their win. Pundits are already doing spin to try to say these elections were about “moderates” winning. If being moderate now means taking on billionaire power, then sign me up.
James Talarico’s basic diagnosis of American politics looks identical to me to that of AOC and Sanders

The idea that Talarico is a moderate and Abdul is a radical is so unserious, and rooted mostly in Abdul's identity.

The big lesson of the Biden years is that you have to prosecute these people. You can’t just move on. You need to make the next generation of grifters and hate mongers scared for their lives.

In the cases of both Zohran Mamdani and El-Sayed, the contest against the Republicans turns out the be the easy part. The truly nasty, vicious, ugly attempt to bring them down at all costs, portraying them as menaces to society (wonder why) comes from the Democratic Party itself.
Efforts to take down @AbdulElSayed aren't just about a Senate seat. It's because he's young, dynamic, politically gifted, and likely to emerge as both a leader and proof of concept for a smart, articulate left populism that is unapologetically anti-militarist.

Was the question of El-Fasher raised last week?
A year ago, El-Fasher, the historic capital of Darfur, was taken by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The city was the scene of mass crimes against civilian populations, targeted on an ethnic basis. On this painful day, our heart is with the people of Sudan. France bows to the memory of the victims. Our compassion is accompanied by a constant determination to act to break the cycle of impunity in Sudan.

Glucksmann’s entire program is speaking obsessively about Mélenchon, painting him as a danger to the country and thus participating in the ongoing normalization of the far right. Other than hating Mélenchon, he doesn’t seem to be proposing anything new.

The revealed preference of centrists has always been fascism over the left.
The main takeaway from this poll is that an overwhelming majority of Philippe or Glucksmann supporters say they would not vote for Melenchon in a 2nd round against Le Pen. This a warning from centrists: vote for our candidate, or we will give the country over to the fascists./1

Brett why did Gaza need so much humanitarian aid? And what was your role in the events that led to the destruction of virtually all infrastructure in Gaza?
How did UAE become the largest global provider of humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to UN data? Because of Lana Nussaibeh—a diplomat who knows everyone and works with them to GSD. She would be an inspired choice for this impossible job.

The amount of uncovered police infiltration & attempts to sow violence in these protests—along with the much more numerous examples of the police attacking people, property, and looting—should be a main focus of journalists’ coverage. It will never be, and you know why.
🇫🇷 “Bismillah, c’est les ténèbres,” roughly translating to “In the name of God, its darkness,” has become a viral slogan at France’s student protests. The phrase originated in a bizarre Snapchat message allegedly sent by an undercover police officer posing as a student to infiltrate groups organizing school blockades. The message, awkwardly mixing Arabic expressions, French youth slang, and Algerian flag emojis was asking about protest plans. Students seized on the apparent attempt to imitate them, and have turned the phrase into a meme to mock suspected police infiltration and racial stereotyping. It now appears on protest signs and is chanted at demonstrations. Swedish activist Greta Thunberg also joined in, repeating the slogan during a visit to striking students at a high school outside Paris on October 13. The identity of the sender and police involvement remain unverified.

There's some truth to this. The problem with LFI is not its political platform -- if anything it's to the right of Mitterrand's 1981 platform in key respects -- but Mélenchon who is an authoritarian personality who has hijacked part of the left as his own cult project.
I rarely agree with Rahman but this is consistent with what many people have pointed out about LFI and its internal culture: no serious interest in governing, despotic, personalist and centred around JLM, happy to mislead the public about policy, entirely theatrical, self-serving, cynical charlatanry, and, yeah, likely willing to fan unrest even in the knowledge that it might fuel support for the far-right, if it puts them in a better position to grandstand. Not that they are to blame for the escalation, but I resent the credulity of the anglophone left that has thrown in their lot with them, just because JLM babbles something about 'the creativity of the youth' and Guetté is 'slaying' holding a cigarette. Just a total surrender to the worst bourgeois radical impulses which have kept the left irrelevant and obsolete: a focus on the rhetoric, theatre and aesthetics of activism and street politics, married to arcane theorising and academic solipsism.
