On The Report Card, @natmalkus and @dcoxpolls discuss how technologies such as social media, AI, and location tracking are affecting teenagers; what gender relations are like among high school students; and how teens today think about family, religion, politics, and America. aei.org/podcast/american-ado…

President Putin is a murderer.
His soldiers use rape as a weapon.
He has launched wars costing thousands of lives.
His agents have stolen children and destroyed families.
Russia today is what President Reagan correctly called it: the evil empire.

Do high school sports help on discipline?
New AEI report with Sam Hollon. Varsity athletes are suspended at less than 1/2 (!) as often as nonstudents. In season (likely causal) athlete risk falls further.
46% lower out of season, 62% lower in season.

$43B to paper over your predictable policy mistakes, plus another $30B in "emergency" aid and tens of billions more from the "usual" farm subsidies.
Insanity.

Those working in the chronic absenteeism space have had few occasions to celebrate since the pandemic.
But, as @natmalkus writes in a new piece, "that might be changing" as "in many states, districts and schools are picking up the pace on absenteeism."

President Trump is right to want peace between Ukraine and Russia. But his actions are making that harder to achieve by emboldening Putin's aggression.

This is a fun paper by @natmalkus and @SamHHollon on the benefit of high school sports. They find varsity athletes’ daily suspension risk was 46% lower out of season and 62% lower in season.
This is partly due to differences between athletes and nonathletes, of course. But the extra in-season drop is evidence that playing helps students stay out of trouble.

By sport, football and wrestling have much higher rates, but still below nonathletes. Partly, but not all, because they are overwhelmingly boys.
