As climate change continues to impact water resources, the sustainable management of shared water resources across the Nile Basin remains a key priority. 💧🌍
In Uganda, the recently launched Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) sites in Ntungamo and Bulambuli are already demonstrating the tangible benefits of groundwater recharge. Funded by @theGEF and jointly implemented by @UNDPUganda and @nbiweb, the sites are improving water availability, strengthening climate resilience, and helping communities adapt to the impacts of climate change.

In Ntungamo District, @UNDPUganda, together with @nbiweb, with support from @theGEF, commissioned and handed over a pilot Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) water system to @min_waterUg.
This nature-based solution captures excess rainwater during wet seasons and stores it underground for use during dry periods, improving water security, strengthening climate resilience, and supporting more sustainable livelihoods for communities.

💧 Enhancing climate resilience in rural Uganda!
With funding from @theGEF and in partnership with @nbiweb, @UNDP successfully commissioned and handed over Uganda's first Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and solar-powered water supply pilot in Bulambuli District to @min_waterUg.
By using innovative induced infiltration technology, drawing river water into gravel deposits and recharging underground aquifers, the pilot helps ensure a sustainable groundwater supply, providing safe drinking water for an estimated 400–500 households for years to come.🌍🇺🇬

Yesterday I visited Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where a separate unit has been prepared to treat #Ebola patients. I'm glad for the opportunity to meet with health workers in charge and thank them for their dedication. I am very happy with all the work invested in preparedness and readiness that I have witnessed.
I commend the Government of #Uganda for the work being done to control Ebola and provide care for those affected. Uganda’s leadership has been central to the response, and @WHO remains committed to supporting national efforts to stop transmission, save lives and protect communities.

In this timelapse of the night sky, you can see lightning storms (beginning and end), and one of my favorite night scenes – as we cross over Africa from west to east, it is very dimly lit until the snaking spectacle of light along the Nile appears (worth the wait), erupting into the brilliance of Cairo and the river delta. It’s a perfect illustration of the vitality of our planet’s water sources and how our human cultures have developed along them.

Strengthening Regional Infrastructure Planning in the Nile Basin.
#IGAD has successfully concluded its participation in the AUDA-NEPAD African Infrastructure Database (AID) Task Team Training on the Nile River Basin Investment Program (NRBIP).
The engagement strengthened regional collaboration, enhanced infrastructure data management, and improved visibility of transformative investment projects aimed at advancing climate-resilient socio-economic development across the Nile Basin.
