FMCSA has amended its hours-of-service waiver for fuel haulers to include heating oil in certain situations, when part of a compartmentalized load and no more than 75% of the load.
The waiver runs through Dec. 16, 2026.

The IRS tonight announced it will not impose penalties on #dyeddiesel sold for or used on highways nationwide, retroactive to Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. Tax deferral guidance is still pending. State laws are not affected. irs.gov/newsroom/irs-provide…
The President signed an executive order tonight aimed at providing temporary federal tax and penalty relief for dyed diesel used on the highway. Relief is not automatically in effect however. Treasury must still determine whether it has the legal authority to defer the tax and the IRS has five days to announce penalty relief. If Treasury grants the deferral, it will cover federal excise tax incurred from October 5 through December 31, 2026, and the tax would be deferred, not eliminated (that likely requires an act of Congress). State laws on dyed fuel and state motor fuel taxes are not affected unless and until individual states act. The EO is below.

The Secretary of the Treasury may defer diesel excise taxes and penalties from October 5 to December 31, 2026, with guidance and possible forgiveness. The Secretaries of Agriculture and Transportation must facilitate implementation and compliance.

President Trump has extended the Jones Act waiver for an additional 90 days.
It will now run through November 14.
This comes just weeks after NEFI and the National Propane Gas Association transmitted a coalition letter to the White House on July 24, urging the Administration to extend this critical relief.
NEFI will continue pressing for a durable, longer-term solution and for meaningful reform of the Jones Act.

NEFI applauds the U.S. Department of Energy's efforts to reassess whether strict new building energy codes are worth what they cost to consumers. Many states base their requirements on the International Energy Conservation Code, which sets up a point system that decides which HVAC systems count. We believe the math is wrong and that major changes are needed. In June, the DOE found that 2024 IECC would increase home construction costs by more than $9.2 billion annually compared to the 2006 code levels and urged the International Code Council to refocus on affordability, transparency, and fuel-neutral efficiency.
