i crossed $5,000💰 in revenue last week. on 20th september, i tweeted a launch video of yet another app i'd built omninotch.app usually, my process is pretty simple: build something, post about it, maybe list it on peerlist or product hunt, and move on. then magically hope people discover it (or that god takes care of the seo). but this time, things went a little differently. i'd been seeing people vibecode sloppy, shitty apps, slap a paywall on them, and somehow people still bought them, even when perfectly good free or open-source alternatives existed. so i thought, why not build something myself and just put it there out of curiosity, kinda fun experiement? but if i'm going to charge people for it, it better be worth their money. i took the idea of a mac notch app, put my own spin on it, built it, posted the launch video, and went to the gym. a few minutes later, an email from dodo popped up. someone had bought my app. holy shit, that feeling was different 🤯 i immediately called my girlfriend and said, "baby, i can't believe it. people actually bought something i built." and while i was still on that call, more emails started coming in. i'd seen people on twitter posting screenshots of those cha-ching notifications on dodo. (emails weren't impressive, so installed the dodo app later lol) the response was insane. people were buying, sending kind messages, suggesting features, and reporting bugs. so i started fixing things, shipping updates, posting everywhere, and doubling down on advertising. at one point, the traffic got so crazy that my site, hosted on vercel's free tier, couldn't keep up. but what really got me wasn't the money. it was the fact that real people, somewhere in the world, were actually using something i'd built. and they liked it enough to pay for it. i answered every single email, personally spoke to users about their experience, and even gave the app away for free to purists who were willing to give me honest, critical feedback. every bug report, every feature request, every little message made me want to improve the product even more. and that's exactly what i kept doing. one month later, on 21st october, omninotch had reached 589 users and i crossed $5,000 in revenue along with a couple of other products of mine 📈 i know $5k might not sound like a lot in the grand scheme of things. but as an indie developer building things after a full-time job, having 589 people pay for something i made is absolutely surreal. 589 real people. using my product. still can't wrap my head around it. ❤️
Over the last few days I ranked the free Mac notch apps, then went back and then sat with them long enough to notice what still felt off. What I kept looking for wasn’t another island under the camera. I wanted something that doesn’t look off; closer to Apple than to a plugin. Dependable. Quiet. The kind of polish you only notice when it isn’t there. I’ve been quietly building that for the past couple of days. Today, I’m introducing OmniNotch. The notch that does it all. Check it out at omninotch.app
