During construction, the #GDBRPCrew needed to get to the top of the towers—more than 50 stories tall and 500-plus feet in the air. To reach the top, an elevator was attached to each tower to carry the crew to their worksite. Check out this photo from 2016 showing a typical ride.

The new G. D. Replacement Bridge has been transformative to our port and to the way we move goods in and out of the city. 🚛
Our Top Bridge Project Moment was the Opening Ceremony on Oct. 2, 2020, with a live caravan of green trucks, a dramatic vintage aircraft flyover and boat parade that featured water-spouting fireboats and cannon fire from a classic ship. More: bit.ly/2OPR97x

The over-water portion of the bridge was built symmetrically in a technique known as “balanced-cantilever” construction. Segments were added on both sides of a tower at the same time, held aloft by the cables threaded from the top of the tower. #LetsBuildABridge
