officer-involved shooting
I’ve been briefed on an officer-involved shooting in Queens that occurred earlier today. The NYPD was responding to a 911 call, where they encountered an individual wielding a knife. The NYPD is assessing the situation, and we are committed to keeping New Yorkers informed as we learn more. I’m grateful to the first responders who put themselves on the line each day to keep our communities safe.

think it's finally safe to call this the shit-eating grin it always was teapawt.net/NYPDPC/status/20159400…
Over the weekend, thousands of uniformed and civilian members of the NYPD were working across the city to keep New Yorkers safe. Despite the dangerous conditions, the NYPD showed up. Calls were answered, and officers were out in neighborhoods responding to people who needed help during a storm that kept most of the city inside. So much of this work was only possible because of our PCTs, the steady voices at the other end of every 911 call. These are the first of the first responders, and @NYCMayor and I visited them today to thank them for their tireless work this weekend during the storm.

journalists love talking "mandates" so a reminder that 4 out of 5 registered nyc voters did not choose mamdani as their candidate and that 88.5% of nyc residents didn't vote for him at all. barely 1 out of every 10 new yorkers voted for mamdani. representative democracy at work

honestly the "power of images to transform society" is a totally empty meaningless thing to critique BUT the gravity of "crime statistics" and numbers and percentages and upticks & downticks of this or that data is what's actually most stunted 21st century abolitionist momentum
There's something about being inundated with snuff films of people being murdered and disappeared by the state from multiple angles for the past ~16 years that has me questioning the purported power of images to transform society
